How Do I Add an External Keypad to an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5?

You can add an external keypad to an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 System by putting the system into sensor learn mode and then syncing the wireless keypad with the system. The external keypad used with the Simon XTi and XTi-5 Systems is the Interlogix Two-Way Talking Touch Screen Keypad.

Complete the following steps to add an Interlogix Two-Way Talking Touch Screen Keypad to an Interlogix Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5 Alarm System:

1. Enter programming. Start from the main screen of the Simon XTi or XTi-5 System. Click the gear icon in the lower-right corner. Use the down arrow on the right side of the screen to scroll down to "Programming". Press the "Enter" button next to this option. You must then provide the system's Installer Code. This code is set to 4321 by default. After entering in the code, press the "OK" button. You will then enter into System Programming.

2. Enroll the keypad. To learn-in the external wireless keypad, you must put the system into learn mode. On the Simon XTi or XTi-5, press the "Sensors" option. Then select "Add Sensor" . The message "Trip New Sensor" will be displayed on the screen. This message indicates that the system is in its learn mode.

Next, from the Interlogix Two-Way Talking Touch Screen, press the gear icon in the lower-right corner of the main screen. Scroll down until you find an option labeled "Clear & Enroll". Then press this button. The keypad will display that it is waiting for enrollment. It may take a few moments for enrollment to complete. Once the device is recognized, the Simon XTi or XTi-5 System will beep and indicate that a new device has been added. This means that enrollment was successful.

3. Configure the device. The keypad will need to be assigned an appropriate sensor group so that it functions properly. The most common sensor groups that are used with the Interlogix Two-Way Talking Touch Screen are 00, 01, 04, 05, 06 and 07. However, there are also other possible sensor group selections that are less commonly used with the device. Please review pages 5-6 of the Interlogix Simon XTi Installation Manual for a complete list of sensor groups. You can also provide a name for the keypad. There are also options for choosing a sensor number and entering in an optional product code. Click the "Save" button in the upper-right corner of the screen to save your changes. It may take a few moments for the changes to be saved. Then click the "Close" button in the upper-right corner of the screen to return to the main system menu.

4. Test the keypad. Try using the external keypad to arm and disarm the system. If the device was set up properly, it should be fully capable of arming and disarming the alarm system.
