How Do I Assign User Codes to Partitions On the IQ Panel 2 Plus?

You can assign user codes to partitions on the IQ Panel 2 Plus by adding a new user code or editing an existing one. Partitions are assigned when creating and editing user codes. Multiple partitions can be assigned to a single code. The Master Code always has access to every partition.

A partition represents a designated section of a security system. Each partition will have its own set of sensors and zones, and you can Arm and Disarm each partition individually. This means that you can have a certain section of the system Armed and secured, while another section is Disarmed and accessible. For example, if you have a home, you might set the zones monitoring your office containing important documents to a different partition. That way, you can have your office Armed and secured when you have guests over, while the rest of the system is Disarmed. Setting up partitions can be more convenient than having to bypass/un-bypass large groups of sensors individually.

You can assign different user codes on the IQ Panel 2 Plus to different partitions. This way, an individual will have access to areas where they are authorized, but they won't be able to access an unauthorized area without setting off an alarm. This is often done in businesses where an employee needs general access to the building, but there might be a more-secure area where they are not supposed to have access. You can give that employee a user code that will work to get in the building, but the code will not work to Disarm the more secure areas that are on different partitions. The IQ Panel 2 Plus supports up to four (4) partitions, and user code assignments are fully customizable.

There are a few things to keep in mind when using partitions on the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. For one, partitions must first be enabled on the system. This is done by clicking the small grey bar at the top of the main screen and choosing Settings > Advanced Settings > Installer Code (default 1111) > Installation > Installer Settings > checking the box for Partitions. Once you do this, the system will ask you if you are sure. Click OK. The system will then reload. When the screen reappears, you will need to provide a valid code to gain access to the system. You will then be required to provide a code every time you go to access the system. This is a requirement of using partitions on the IQ Panel 2.

Second, it is important to remember that only partitions with at least one (1) zone programmed will appear. You can assign a zone to a different partition when configuring its zone settings. Each zone can only be assigned to one (1) partition at any given time. But if you don't have any zones on a partition, then that partition will not appear for Arming and Disarming. The only exception is Partition 1, which is always enabled. There are four (4) available partition slots on the system. Once a partition has at least one (1) zone, then it will appear for Arming and Disarming, provided that the user code you are using has been granted access to control that partition.

Lastly, partition assignments can only be edited for standard user codes. The Master Code (default 1234), the Installer Code (default 1111), and the Dealer Code (default 2222) are hard-coded so that they are assigned to every partition. It's only standard user codes that can have partition assignments adjusted. Also keep in mind that while the Installer Code and Dealer Code have access to every partition for Arming, they cannot be used to Disarm a partition. You can only Disarm a partition with the Master Code, which has access to every partition, or with a user code that has been properly assigned to that partition.

For this FAQ, we will assume that partitions have already been enabled on the IQ Panel 2. Complete the following steps to adjust the partition assignments for a user code:

1. Provide a code. Since partitions are enabled, you must provide a code before you can access the system. You must use the Master Code (default 1234), Installer Code (default 1111), or Dealer Code (2222). You will access the main system screen upon providing a code.

2. Access user management. You must now access the User Management Menu. Click the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Then choose Settings > Advanced Settings > User Management. You will then access the User Management Menu.

3. Adjust partition assignments. If you want to edit the partition assignments for an existing code, click on the pencil icon next to that code. If you want to make a new code with certain partition assignments, click Add User. There will be a Partition Access section on the right-hand side of the screen where you can check one or more partitions that the code should have access to. Make sure the appropriate selections have been made, and ensure that all of the other available fields are correct. Click Add User or Save at the bottom once finished.

4. Return home. After saving your changes, click the picture of the house at the bottom of the screen to return home.
