How Do I Connect My DSC Impassa to WIFI?

You cannot connect your DSC Impassa to WIFI. DSC has not produced a WIFI card for the system. The panel can only receive monitoring service through a phone line connection or a cellular connection. We strongly recommend using a cellular connection, as it is vastly superior in every way.

The only way for an alarm system to use WIFI connectivity is with a properly functioning WIFI card. However, there is no WIFI card for the DSC Impassa. This means that there is no way to connect the system to a WIFI network. Instead, this system can only receive alarm monitoring service through either a telephone line or a cellular connection.

But the lack of WIFI connectivity is not a major concern for the DSC Impassa. Cellular connectivity can provide all the features of WIFI connectivity, and more. Only with a cellular connection can an alarm system access the Alarm.com service. Alarm.com allows users to arm and disarm their system, check the current status of sensors and control Z-Wave home automation devices This service can be accessed from a web browser or from the Alarm.com Mobile App on an Android or iOS device.

In order to utilize a cellular connection, a cellular communicator will need to be installed in the DSC Impassa System. The panel will need to be running firmware version 1.3 or higher to support the communicator. If the panel is not running at least firmware version 1.3, then there is no way to upgrade the firmware, and the entire system will need to be replaced. All of the DSC Impassa Systems sold by Alarm Grid are already running firmware version 1.3. The user will also need an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular connectivity. All of the Gold and Platinum level plans from Alarm Grid include this feature. Please review our Alarm Monitoring Page for more information.

In addition to providing access to Alarm.com, cellular service also offers other benefits for an alarm system. Unlike a phone line connection and WIFI service, cellular connectivity is extremely reliable, and it is almost unheard of for the service to be down or unavailable. The speeds provided from cellular are very fast, and they are right on par with WIFI. It is also nearly impossible for an intruder to tamper with a cellular connection. For these reasons, upgrading to cellular is very important for an alarm system.
