How Do I Connect the 2GIG GC Touch to a Hidden WIFI Network?
To connect the 2GIG GC Touch (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) to a hidden WIFI network, access WIFI settings through Installer programming and scroll to the Add Network option at the bottom of the network list. This allows you to manually enter your hidden network's SSID, security type, and password to establish a connection.
The GC Touch primarily communicates with the Alarm.com backend platform via WIFI, using cellular as a backup when WIFI is unavailable. Hidden networks do not broadcast their SSID, so they will not appear in the panel's automatic network scan. The Add Network feature lets you manually configure the connection credentials for networks that are not visible in the standard WIFI list.
Steps to Connect to a Hidden Network
Complete the following steps to connect your GC Touch to a hidden WIFI network:
- Enter Settings (⚙). From the home screen, with the system disarmed, tap the settings icon in the upper right.
- Enter the Installer Code. When prompted, enter the Installer Code (default: 1561) and press Enter (↵), if necessary.
- Tap WIFI This opens the WIFI management screen.
- Enable WIFI. Tap the WIFI menu option. Make sure WIFI is enabled using the toggle switch if it is not already active.
- Scroll to the bottom of the network list. The panel will display all detected networks. Hidden networks will not appear here. Scroll down until you see "Add Network."
- Tap Add Network. This option appears at the very bottom of the SSID list, so you may have to scroll down.
- Enter the SSID. Type your hidden network's exact name (case-sensitive) in the SSID field.
- Select the Network Type. Choose your security protocol from the dropdown (WPA/WPA2 is most common for home networks).
- Enter the Password. Type your WIFI password. Tap the eye icon to verify your entry if needed.
- Tap OK. The panel will attempt to connect. Once successful, the status will change to Connected and display the IP address.
Connecting to a hidden WIFI network on the 2GIG GC Touch ensures your security system maintains reliable communication with alarm monitoring even when using a non-broadcast network. Whether you monitor the system yourself, use central station monitoring, or both, the system will communicate using WIFI whenever possible, and will use its LTE cellular communicator when WIFI is absent or unreliable. Double-check your SSID spelling and password accuracy if the connection fails. For an explanation of the different monitoring options, check out this FAQ.
