How Do I Control Lights w/ a DSC Impassa?

You cannot control lights with a DSC Impassa. Although it is possible to program Z-Wave devices with a DSC Impassa, the system offers no way to actually operate the devices. Instead, any programmed Z-Wave device, including any Z-Wave lights, must be controlled from the Alarm.com service.

The DSC Impassa will only support Z-Wave devices if a cellular communicator is installed and activated with the system. This is because a Z-Wave controller is built into the cellular communicator. In order to support a cellular communicator, the DSC Impassa System will need to be running firmware version 1.3 or higher. If the Impassa System isn't running at least firmware version 1.3, then there is no way to upgrade the firmware, and the system will need to be replaced. All of the DSC Impassa Systems sold by Alarm Grid are already set up with firmware version 1.3.

Once a Z-Wave device, such as a Z-Wave light, is enrolled with the system, it can be controlled from Alarm.com. This is an interactive service platform that a user can access to control their security system. In addition to performing Z-Wave operations, a user can also access Alarm.com to arm and disarm their system, check the current status of sensors and view any programmed security cameras. A user will be able to access Alarm.com after they activate cellular service for their DSC Impassa System and create an Alarm.com account. The user will need an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular service, such as the Gold and Platinum level plans from Alarm Grid.

Alarm.com can be accessed in one of two ways. The first way is to use a web browser on any standard computer. The second way is to use the Alarm.com Mobile App. The mobile app is available for free download from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. By using the Alarm.com Mobile App, a user will be able to control their lights from essentially anywhere,
