iGSMHS4G vs 7847i

The iGSMHS4G and 7847i are AlarmNet communicators. Both modules allow a compatible panel to communicate w/ the AlarmNet platform. The 7847i connects via Ethernet & supports Total Connect 2.0. The iGSMHS4G uses Ethernet and/or Cellular. It is mainly used for securing sensitive commercial locations like jewelry stores.

The 7847i is an AlarmNet compatible, external IP communicator that connects to an IP network via its Ethernet jack. You will need a 4 conductor cable to connect the unit to a compatible alarm system, which is how it receives power. In the event of an AC power outage, the unit will use the alarm systems backup battery to continue to operate. Total Connect 2.0 remote access to the system is fully supported by the 7847i.

The iGSMHS4G is similar to the 7847i in that it’s also an external IP communicator which is compatible with AlarmNet. Unlike the 7847i, this device also has a cellular communicator. AlamNet communicators that have both Ethernet and Cellular communication paths offer the Dual Path feature. Dual path sends all of the systems communication on the Ethernet path and switches to the Cellular path only if Ethernet service is interrupted. The unit connects to its alarm system with a 4 conductor cable just like the 7847i, but also has its own power transformer which connects via a 2 conductor cable. The iGSMHS4G has its own internal backup battery, in case of an AC power loss. All of the iGSMHS4G’s communication is encrypted with 256-bit AES technology. Additionally, the unit supports UL listed Line Security. With this feature, AlarmNet expects to hear a check in signal from the iGSMHS4G at least once every 200 seconds. If the system fails to check in for more than 200 seconds, a Comm Fail message is generated to the central station for that account. The iGSMHS4G is not Total Connect 2.0 compatible and isn’t recommended for use in a residential application.
