Which Battery Packs are Compatible with the Lyric Alarm System?
The battery packs compatible with the Lyric Alarm System are the Honeywell LCP500-24B and the Honeywell LCP500-4B. Both are designed to keep the system running in the event of a power outage. The difference between the two is how long they will keep the Honeywell Lyric powered on.
Keeping a system powered on at all times is important. Normally, a system remains running reliably using a plug-in transformer. But if the electricity goes out, the system will need a backup power source. That is where a backup battery comes into play. The backup battery slowly stores electricity while the system is running on AC power. Once the power goes out, the system will automatically switch over to this backup power source. The battery will then keep the system running as long as possible.
There are two backup battery packs designed for use with the Honeywell Lyric System. These are the Honeywell LCP500-24B and the Honeywell LCP-4B. Both conveniently plug-in to a port on the panel's board. The only real difference between the two is that the LCP500-24B stores a larger amount of electricity, and it keeps the Lyric system running for up to 24 hours. The LCP500-4B can only keep the system running for four hours. The LCP500-24B pack can be recognized with its blue color, while the LCP500-4B pack is green.
Both the LCP500-24B and the LCP500-4B offer a product life of about five years. This time period depends greatly upon usage. At that point, the battery will no longer be able to store a charge, and it will need to be replaced. You will know this because the panel will display a low-battery warning that won't clear even if the panel is left on AC power.
However, a low-battery warning does not necessarily mean that the battery must be replaced. It could be that the panel was running on battery power, and now the battery needs time to recharge. You should try giving a backup battery at least 24 hours to recharge before assuming that it needs to be replaced. If the low-battery warning does not clear after 24 hours and the backup battery is at least three to five years old, then you are probably due for a replacement.
