Do Door/Window Sensors Work w/ the Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5?
Yes, door and window sensors work with the Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5. These devices will work as long as they can send out wireless signals at a frequency that is accepted by the system's wireless receiver. For the Simon XTi and XTi-5 Systems, this wireless frequency is 319.5 MHz.
A door and window sensor typically consists of a sensor and a magnet. The sensor is installed on or inside the door or window frame. The magnet is installed on or inside the door or window itself within about a half inch of the sensor. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause the reed switch inside the sensor to activate. The sensor will then send a signal to the alarm system to let it know that the door or window has been opened. For wireless door and window sensors, the system must be able to recognize the incoming wireless signal.
Wireless door and window sensors are enrolled with a Simon XTi or XTi-5 System in a very similar manner to other types of wireless security sensors. This involves putting the Simon XTi or XTi-5 System into its learn mode. This mode is accessed through System Programming. Providing the system's Installer Code (default 4321) is necessary for accessing this menu. Once the system is in its learn mode, the tamper switch on the sensor must be activated to have it automatically learned in. To activate the tamper switch, simply remove the back cover from the device. The panel should recognize the sensor and allow its settings to be configured.
The Simon XTi and XTi-5 Systems feature specific group types that are used for door and window sensors. For an entry/exit door, use group type 10. For an interior door, use group type 14. For window sensors, use group type 13. More information on group types can be found on pages 5 and 6 of the Simon XTi Installation Manual.
