Does the 2GIG Edge Support Z-Wave?
Yes, the 2GIG Edge supports Z-Wave. Every 2GIG Edge Alarm Control Panel has a built-in 700-Series Z-Wave Plus V2 Controller. With this module, you can pair all sorts of Z-Wave devices with the 2GIG Edge System, including lights, door locks, smart thermostats, water valves, and more.
Z-Wave smart home automation is known for its backward compatibility. You can pair virtually any Z-Wave device with the 2GIG Edge, regardless of which "generation" of Z-Wave it is from. This includes classic Z-Wave devices, 500-Series Z-Wave Plus devices, 700-Series Z-Wave Plus V2 devices, and future iterations of Z-Wave devices that have not yet been released at the time of this writing.
In order to achieve the longest possible battery life and the greatest wireless range, it is advised that you use certified Z-Wave Plus V2 700-Series devices whenever possible. This will also ensure the best possible security, as all Z-Wave Plus V2 700-Series devices use the enhanced S2 Security Protocol. As the 700-Series is still quite new as of July 2021, you may have trouble finding some devices that are certified 700-Series. In that case, the 500-Series Z-Wave Plus devices will still work very well. And if you have to use some classic Z-Wave devices, then that is still okay. But it is advised that you use 700-Series and 500-Series devices whenever possible.
Z-Wave devices paired with the 2GIG Edge can be controlled from the alarm panel and any 2GIG Edge Remote Touchscreen Keypad devices. Also, if the system is monitored with a monitoring plan that includes remote smart home automation services, then you can also control your Z-Wave devices remotely through the Alarm.com platform. You can access Alarm.com through a compatible web browser, or by using the Alarm.com Mobile App on an Android or iOS device. Alarm.com will also allow you to establish smart scenes so that your Z-Wave devices respond automatically based on a set schedule or with predetermined system events. This is great for saving money on energy costs and making your life more convenient.
