How Do I Adjust Panel Motion Sensitivity on the IQ Panel 5?

To adjust panel motion sensitivity on the IQ Panel 5, go to Advanced Settings, Installation, Devices, Security Sensors, then Panel Motion Settings. Touch Setting, choose High, Medium, or Low, and touch OK. Low is the default. Low is the default setting. The change applies right away.

What Panel Motion Sensitivity Does

The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) includes a Panel Motion Detector that uses the built-in camera to notice movement in the room. The sensitivity setting controls how easily the detector decides that something moved. A higher sensitivity picks up smaller changes in the picture, and a lower sensitivity needs more movement before it triggers. The choices are Low, Medium, and High, and Low is the default.

The Panel Motion Detector is for activity monitoring and automation only. It does not create an alarm condition or act as a security motion sensor, so it works alongside your security system and does not replace it.

Before You Start

The sensitivity setting belongs to the Panel Motion Detector, so turn the detector on before you adjust it. You need the Installer Code, which is 1111 by default, or the Dealer Code, 2222.

How to Adjust Panel Motion Sensitivity

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

10. Choose High, Medium, or Low, then touch OK. Low is the default. Use the green to red bar on the right side of the screen to judge the trigger threshold.

Choosing the Right Sensitivity

Start with Low, the default, and leave it there if the panel detects the movement you care about. Move to Medium or High if movement in the room is going unnoticed. The green to red bar on the right side of the screen shows how close the movement is to the trigger threshold, so you can watch it while someone walks through the room and see whether a different setting would help.

If the panel reacts to movement you do not care about, such as a ceiling fan or a window with moving tree branches, go back to a lower setting or use masking instead.

Masking Areas of the Camera View

Masking is on the same screen. Touch Add Mask to get a drawable green area that is left out of the motion calculation, then touch Save Mask to keep it. You can draw up to 4 independent mask areas. Masking is the better fix when only part of the view causes trouble, since it leaves the rest of the room fully covered.

After You Change the Setting

The new setting applies to the Panel Motion Detector from then on. Test it by moving through the room and watching the bar on the settings screen, then adjust again if needed. You can return to the same screen at any time and choose a different level.

If You Cannot Find Panel Motion Settings

If Panel Motion Settings is not in the Security Sensors menu, confirm you opened it with the Installer Code and that the Panel Motion Detector is turned on. The detector is an option in Installer Settings, and it is off until you turn it on.
