How Do I Adjust Panel Motion Sensitivity on the IQ5 NS?

The IQ5 NS does not have Panel Motion Settings, because it has no built-in camera or Panel Motion Detector. Sensitivity is a setting of that detector on the IQ Panel 5, so there is nothing to adjust. Use a PowerG motion sensor to detect motion on the IQ5 NS instead. It has no panel settings.

Does the IQ5 NS Have Panel Motion Settings

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) does not have Panel Motion Settings. On the IQ Panel 5, these settings control the Panel Motion Detector, which uses the built-in camera to notice movement. The IQ5 NS has no built-in camera, so it has no Panel Motion Detector.

With no detector, there is no sensitivity setting to adjust on the system.

What Panel Motion Sensitivity Does on the IQ Panel 5

On the IQ Panel 5, the sensitivity can be set to Low, Medium, or High, with Low as the default. The same screen lets you mask off up to 4 areas of the camera view to prevent false triggers. The detector is for activity monitoring and automation only, and it does not create an alarm condition.

How to Add Motion Detection to the IQ5 NS

To detect motion with the IQ5 NS, enroll a PowerG motion sensor. A motion sensor is a separate device that you mount where you want coverage, and it reports to the system like any other sensor. It gives you motion detection that works as part of your security system.

If You Want the Built-In Detector

If built-in motion detection for activity monitoring matters to you, the IQ Panel 5 includes the Panel Motion Detector and its settings. All panels in this family share the same core security features, so the choice comes down to whether you want the camera and the display that comes with it.

Where a Motion Sensor Works Best

Mount a motion sensor in a room where movement is likely to occur, such as a main hallway or a living area, and aim it across the path people take. Avoid pointing it at heat sources or moving objects. Test the sensor after you mount it, and keep a record of where you installed it.

How the Panels Differ

The IQ Panel 5 is an all-in-one panel with a built-in camera, which is what makes a Panel Motion Detector possible. A panel without a camera leaves that feature out while keeping the same core detection, arming, and reporting. For most households that is an easy tradeoff, because dedicated motion sensors are common and work well. A household that wants camera-based activity monitoring will prefer the IQ Panel 5.

What the Motion Settings Cover on the IQ Panel 5

The Panel Motion Settings screen on the IQ Panel 5 shows the camera view with three buttons: Add Mask, Save Mask, and Setting. Add Mask draws an area that is left out of motion detection, and Save Mask keeps it. Setting opens the sensitivity choices of Low, Medium, and High. A green to red bar on the side of the screen shows how close movement is to the trigger threshold.

Planning Your Motion Coverage

Decide whether you need motion detection for security, for activity monitoring, or for both. A motion sensor enrolled on the IQ5 NS can protect an area while you are away, and it can also be used for monitoring. A camera-based detector on the IQ Panel 5 is for activity monitoring and automation only.

The IQ5 NS does not have Panel Motion Settings, but a PowerG motion sensor adds motion detection to the system on the IQ5 NS.
