How Do I Change the Ambient Noise Threshold on the IQ Panel 5?
To change the Ambient Noise Threshold on the IQ Panel 5, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, touch Installation, then Installer/Dealer Settings, and choose your value from 75 to 95 dB. The setting is greyed out until the detector is enabled, and the default is 85 dB.
What the Ambient Noise Threshold Is
The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) has a Panel Ambient Noise Detector that uses its built-in microphones to listen for loud noise. The Ambient Noise Threshold is the level, in decibels, at which the detector decides there is enough noise to generate an alert. The default is 85 dB, and you can choose any value from 75 to 95 dB.
The detector is designed for places such as apartments, multi-dwelling buildings, and short term rentals, where noise complaints are a concern. Setting the threshold correctly keeps the detector from alerting too often or too rarely.
Before You Start
You need the Installer Code, which is 1111 by default, or the Dealer Code, 2222. The Ambient Noise Threshold is greyed out and cannot be selected unless the Panel Ambient Noise Detector is enabled, so turn the detector on first. The detector is disabled by default. On the IQ Panel 5, the detector also cannot be enabled while the Panel Glass Break Detector is enabled, so turn that off first if you need the noise detector.
How to Change the Ambient Noise Threshold
1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.
2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.
3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works. The panel opens the Installer menu as soon as the code is entered.
5. Touch Installation. This opens the Installation menu.
6. Touch Installer/Dealer Settings. This opens the list of installer settings.

7. Find Ambient Noise Threshold. It is below Panel Ambient Noise Detector in the list. The default is 85 dB.
8. Choose a value between 75 and 95 dB. A lower number makes the detector alert at a quieter noise level, and a higher number needs more noise.
Choosing the Right Threshold
Start by finding out how loud the room normally is. Run the Ambient Noise Test, which shows the minimum, maximum, average, and current decibel readings and a Threshold Breach Count. If the maximum reading often comes close to 85 dB during normal activity, raise the threshold so everyday sound does not trigger alerts. If the room stays quiet and you want earlier warnings, lower it toward 75 dB. Choose the value that fits the noise your security system should treat as a problem.
How the Threshold Works With the Duration
The threshold works together with the Noise Detector Duration setting. The duration is 20 minutes by default and sets how long the panel must detect noise above the threshold before it generates a noise notification. A brief loud sound does not trigger an alert by itself. The noise has to stay above the threshold for the full duration.
After an alert is generated, the detector waits through a 30 second cool down period before it can alert again.
If the Setting Is Greyed Out
If Ambient Noise Threshold is greyed out, the Panel Ambient Noise Detector is still disabled. Turn on the detector in the same Installer/Dealer Settings list, then return to the threshold and choose your value.
Test the New Threshold
After you change the threshold, run the Ambient Noise Test from the System Tests menu. The screen shows the new threshold beside the Threshold Breach Count, so you can watch how the room compares to it. Adjust the value again if the readings show the setting is too sensitive or not sensitive enough.
What Happens When the Detector Alerts
When the noise stays above the threshold for the full duration, the detector generates a noise notification. A separate setting, Noise Detector Popup, is disabled by default and decides whether the panel also shows a message on its own screen when a noise event happens. Turn it on if you want the people at the panel to see the event as it happens.
How to Return to the Default
To go back to the default, repeat the same steps and choose 85 dB. The panel then alerts at the same level it did before you made the change.
For complete protection, consider adding professional monitoring and home automation devices to your system.
