How Do I Change the Master Code on a Honeywell System If I Only Have a 6280 Keypad?

You can change the Master Code on a Honeywell System if you only have a 6280 Keypad by using Console Mode on the keypad. This is the best way to adjust the user codes for the system, as they will be shared across the entire Honeywell VISTA System, rather than just the 6280 Keypad.

The first is through Total Connect 2.0. Simply login to the Total Connect 2.0 service, go to the Users tab, and click on the Master User. You will then be taken to a screen where you can edit the code. Make sure to click "Save" when finished.

The other way to change the Master Code when using the 6280 Keypad is to do so through the Users Menu. This process is outlined starting on page 24 of the Honeywell 6280 User Guide. However, we do not recommend using the Users Menu on the 6280 to change the Master Code. This is because the Users Menu will not change the Master Code across the entire VISTA System. This can be a problem if an additional keypad is added later. But changing the code through Console Mode will not present this problem.

Please note the process outline below is also the same when using Console Mode on a Honeywell Tuxedo Touch Keypad. If you would like to change the Master Code for your Honeywell VISTA System through Console Mode on your 6280 Keypad, complete the following steps:

1. Open Console Mode. From the main screen of the 6280, choose Security > More Choices > Console Mode. You will now be in Console Mode.

2. Change the code. Note that the Master Code is always represented on a VISTA System through slot 02. The command to change the Master Code is [Current Master Code] + [8] + [02] + [New Master Code] + [New Master Code Again]. The 6280 will beep to confirm that the code has been changed.

3. Exit the menu. Press the picture of the house in the upper left corner. This will exit Console Mode and return you to the home screen. Any changes that were made will automatically be saved.
