How Do I Change the Z-Wave Frequency Region on the IQ5 Hub?

To change the Z-Wave frequency region on the IQ5 Hub, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, then touch Installation, Devices, Z-Wave Devices, and Z-Wave Settings. Touch Zwave Frequency Region and select the region you need from the list of 12 choices. It is set automatically.

What the Z-Wave Frequency Region Setting Does

The IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) sets the Z-Wave frequency region for its Z-Wave radio. By default the setting varies by region. The panel sets it automatically based on the region where it is installed and the Z-Wave hardware inside it. You can also choose the region yourself.

The manual lists 12 choices: United States, United States Long Range, European Union, Australia/New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Israel, Russia, China, Japan, and Korea.

When You Would Change It

Most installations never need this setting, because the panel picks the region on its own. Change it when the automatic region does not match where the system is installed or the region of your Z-Wave devices. If your Z-Wave devices work normally, leave the setting alone.

Before You Start

You need the Installer Code, which is 1111 by default, or the Dealer Code, 2222. Check the packaging of your Z-Wave devices to confirm which region they are made for, so you choose the right one from the list. The setting is on the Z-Wave Settings page, which is part of the Z-Wave Devices menu.

How to Change the Z-Wave Frequency Region

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.

3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works. The panel opens the Installer menu as soon as the code is entered.

5. Touch Installation. This opens the Installation menu.

6. Touch Devices. Devices is the first button in the Installation menu.

7. Touch Z-Wave Devices. Z-Wave Devices is the third button in the Devices menu.

8. Touch Z-Wave Settings. This opens the Z-Wave settings for the panel.

9. Touch Zwave Frequency Region. The current region shows here. It varies by region, since the panel sets it automatically.

10. Select the region you need from the list. The choices are United States, United States Long Range, European Union, Australia/New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Israel, Russia, China, Japan, and Korea.

Where Else the Setting Appears

The same Zwave Frequency Region row is also in the Installer/Dealer Settings table, with the same default and the same list of regions. Either place changes the same setting on the panel, so use whichever menu you already have open.

Other Settings on the Z-Wave Settings Page

The Z-Wave Settings page holds three more settings. Access to Automation is enabled by default and lets you apply simple automated actions to lights and switches directly from the panel. Z-Wave Enabled activates or deactivates the Z-Wave radio, and the manual says to use that only when the controller, which is the panel, is missing or inoperable. Advanced Z-Wave Settings is disabled by default, and enabling it adds two icons to the Z-Wave Devices page, Replace Failed Node and Add/Remove Controller.

After You Change the Region

Test your Z-Wave devices to confirm they still respond. Turn a light on and off or check a lock from the panel, and run a Z-Wave test from the System Tests menu if a device does not answer. Your Z-Wave devices are part of your home automation setup, so confirm each one before you leave the panel.

If a Device Stops Responding

If a device stops responding after the change, confirm the region matches the device, since an incorrect region is the first thing to rule out. Return to Z-Wave Settings and check the region that shows. If the region is right and the device still does not respond, test the connection and contact Alarm Grid support so we can help.

Changing the Z-Wave frequency region on your IQ5 Hub takes the Installer Code and a few steps in Z-Wave Settings on the IQ5 Hub.
