How Do I Check the WIFI Connection Speed on the IQ Panel 5?

To check the WIFI connection speed on your IQ Panel 5, swipe down, touch Settings, touch Advanced Settings, enter your code, then touch About. The Speed field under Wi-Fi Information shows the connection speed in Mbps. Checking it takes only a moment and does not change any of your settings.

What the Speed Field Shows

The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) reports its WIFI connection speed in Mbps in the Wi-Fi Information section of the About page. The reading appears as a number under the Speed field, right below the network name, and it gives you a quick, no-test way to see how well the panel is connected to your home network at that moment.

WIFI is one half of the dual-path communication your security system uses to reach Alarm.com and your monitoring center, working alongside cellular. A healthy connection speed is a good sign that the WIFI path is in good shape, and a poor one is an early warning that the panel may be struggling to stay connected.

How to Check the WIFI Connection Speed

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

4. Enter your code. The Installer Code, default 1111, the Master Code, default 1234, or the Dealer Code, default 2222, all provide access to the About page.

5. Touch About. This opens the system information page showing Battery, Software, Hardware, Patches, Cellular, Z-Wave, PowerG, Wi-Fi Information, and Internal Storage details.

6. Scroll down to the Wi-Fi Information section. This section sits below the Z-Wave and PowerG details.

7. Find Speed in the list. It shows the connection speed in Mbps, just below the SSID.

What the Number Does and Does Not Tell You

The Speed field is a reading of the panel's own WIFI connection, expressed in Mbps. It is not the same thing as an internet speed test, so it will not necessarily match the number you get from a phone or computer on the same network. Treat it as a reading of how well the panel is connected, not as a measurement of your internet plan.

A panel sends small amounts of data, so it does not need a very fast connection to do its job. What matters most is that the reading is steady and that the connection stays up. A reading that is consistently low, or that swings widely from one check to the next, is worth looking into even if everything else seems to work.

How Speed Fits With the Other Wi-Fi Information Fields

Speed sits alongside four other fields. The SSID is the name of the network the panel is using. Connection shows Connected or Disconnected. IP Address is the address the panel was given when it connected. Internet shows Available or Unavailable, which tells you whether the panel can communicate outside your home.

Read them together. A good speed with Internet showing Unavailable means the panel is reaching your router but your router is not passing traffic to the outside world, which points to a problem with your internet service rather than with the panel. A low speed with Internet showing Available means the connection works but is weak, which usually points to distance, obstructions, or interference between the panel and your router.

Speed Reading vs. the WIFI Test

The About page gives you a quick look at the current connection without running anything. If you want an active check, the System Tests menu on the panel includes a WIFI Test that checks the connection between the panel and your router and reports its result along with the connection speed. The Dual Path test goes further and checks the broadband connection all the way to Alarm.com. Use the About page for a casual glance and the tests when you are actively troubleshooting. You can also review your monitoring plan to confirm how WIFI and cellular are used together.

If the Speed Looks Low

Start with the simplest fixes. Check how far the panel is from your router and whether walls, floors, or large appliances sit in between. The panel supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, and the 2.4 GHz band generally reaches farther through walls, so confirm which band your router is offering. Restarting the router can also clear up a temporary slowdown. If the reading stays low after those steps, run the WIFI Test and contact Alarm Grid support so we can help narrow down the cause.

If the Speed Field Shows Nothing

If the panel is not connected to a network, there is no connection speed to report, and the Connection field shows Disconnected. Reconnect through the WIFI settings. Go to Advanced Settings, Installation, Devices, then Wi-Fi. Select your network, enter the password, and return to the About page to confirm a speed now appears.
