How Do I Connect My Lyric Alarm System to Alexa?

You can connect your Lyric Alarm System to Alexa by enabling the Total Connect 2.0 Skill in the Alexa App and providing your TC2 account info. You can then control your Lyric System with Alexa voice commands. Home Automation using Voice Commands is available in a limited capacity only.

An Alexa device is able to control other devices through the use of Alexa Skills. Various Skills are enabled using the Alexa App on an Android or iOS device. Upon enabling a new skill, the user will need to complete the process of syncing devices that are compatible with the skill. The Total Connect 2.0 Skill is great for controlling any Honeywell Alarm System that is used with TC2. Please note that for security purposes, you cannot disarm your system using Alexa voice commands.

Keep in mind though that the Total Connect 2.0 Alexa Skill only supports home automation functionality in a limited fashion at this time. The TC2 Alexa Skill can be used for system functions like arming and checking the current status. It can also be used to tell the Lyric to run a pre-configured scene, but not to control individual devices. This is important to remember if the user intends on using smart home automation devices with Amazon Alexa. Fortunately, there are ways around this. If the device is usable with Honeywell Home, the user can enable the Honeywell Home Skill within the Alexa App and use that Skill to control the device. This will work with Lyric Thermostats and newer HD Total Connect IP Cameras. Or if the device in question is a Z-Wave smart home device, you can pair it with a different Z-Wave hub and enable the Skill for that hub within the Alexa App.

If you want to pair your Lyric Controller with Amazon Alexa, complete the following steps:

1. Get Total Connect 2.0. In order to pair a Honeywell Lyric Controller with Amazon Alexa, it must be connected with Total Connect 2.0. This will require that the user has an alarm monitoring plan that includes access to the service. Your alarm monitoring company should send you information to get started with Total Connect 2.0. This includes pairing your Lyric System with the service and creating a Total Connect 2.0 account.

2. Enable the TC2 Skill. Access the Alexa App on your Android or iOS device. If you do not have the app, you can download it for free from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Once you have opened the app, access the Skills section. Locate the Total Connect 2.0 Skill, and press the "Enable Skill" button. The app will then walk you through the process of enabling the skill.

3. Share your TC2 account. When enabling the TC2 Skill, you will need to provide your Total Connect 2.0 account login information. This will allow the Alexa device to control your Lyric Alarm Panel through TC2. Enter the relevant information, and press the blue "Log In" button.

4. Test the device. State the following command to your Alexa device, "Alexa, tell Honeywell to Arm Stay." The Lyric System should go into Arm Stay mode, assuming the panel is ready. This indicates that your TC2 account was successfully paired with Amazon Alexa. In order to disarm the system, you must use the panel or TC2. Disarming is not possible through Amazon Alexa.
