How Do I Get the Master Code On My Resideo PROA7PLUS?

On the PROA7PLUS the default Master Code is 1234. If the code has been changed and you don't know it, then you will need to contact your alarm dealer and ask them to set the Master Code for you remotely. Once you know the Master Code, you will be able to change it at the panel or a keypad.

Below are shown the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS and the Resideo PROA7PLUSC. The only meaningful difference between them is the brand name shown on the front:

It is not uncommon to move into a new home that already has a security system installed. In many cases, the old system user hasn't used the system regularly, and may have completely forgotten to discuss with you what the code is, how to change it, or how to use the system. The issue is so common that we published a blog about the proper etiquette when selling a home and leaving a security system behind.

The information contained in this FAQ also applies to the Honeywell Home PROA7 and the Resideo PROA7C. With regard to the adding, editing, and deleting of user codes, all four (4) panels behave in the same way. There are major differences between the PLUS and Non-PLUS panel versions, though. Check out this FAQ to learn the differences between them.

It is not possible to change the Master Code at the panel unless you know the existing Master Code. However, as long as you have the panel monitored, or if you are in the process of getting it monitored, you should be able to have your alarm dealer change the code for you remotely through AlarmNet360. Ask them to set the Master Code back to the default, which is 1234. From there, you will be able to change the Master Code to anything you want it to be.

In order for your alarm dealer to register your PROSeries panel, they will need to get its MAC address. If you know the Installer Code or the Master Code, you can retrieve this information through panel programming. To find it, tap the three-line menu icon in the bottom-center of the screen. Then, on the left, scroll down and tap Tools. When prompted, enter either the Master Code or the Installer Code. Within Tools, tap on System Information. You'll see General and Main Control. Tap the down arrow next to Main Control. Scroll down and find Panel Mac Address. Provide this information to your alarm dealer for registration.

Once you know the Master Code, you can change the master code by following these steps:

  1. Enter User Management. From the main screen of either the panel or a PROWLTOUCH or PROWLTOUCHC, click the Menu icon (3 horizontal lines at the bottom center of the screen) then tap Settings > User Management > Enter Current Master Code > Tap Master User.

Important Note: you can also get to this screen by entering the Installer Code (Default 4112) however, before you can save the new Master Code, you will be prompted to enter the current Master Code. This occurs even when you use the current Master Code in order to get to edit screen. This is why you must know the current Master Code before you can change the code through the panel touchscreen or a secondary touchscreen.

  2. Edit Master Code. Once you are in the Master User profile screen, click the pencil icon to the right of the PIN. You will be prompted to enter a new PIN. Enter the desired 4-digit code. You will now be prompted to confirm new PIN. Re-enter the same 4-digit code. Assuming you enter the same four digits both times, you will then be returned to the Master User profile screen. Press the Save button in the upper right. You will now be prompted to enter the previous Master Code. If you enter the correct code, the information will be saved and you can exit User Management, or go on to add or edit other codes. If you enter the Installer Code or anything other than the existing Master Code, you'll receive an error and the change will not be saved.

  3. Exit User Management. Once you have completed changing the Master Code and managing any other codes, you can return to the default screen by pressing the back arrows in the upper left side of the screen, or by pressing the shield icon in the lower right of the screen. This will return you to the main Security Screen.

It seems like a Catch-22, you can't register the panel without the MAC address. You may not know the Master Code until the panel is registered and the existing code is changed, and you can't get the MAC address without the Master or Installer Code. To some extent this is true. So, if you're going to be using an existing PROSeries panel, whether you moved into a house where it's already installed, or you purchase a used system somewhere, it is important to communicate effectively with the seller.

Wherever possible, be sure the Installer Code and the Master Code have been set back to the default values of 4112 and 1234 respectively. Also, it is important that the previous owner cancel any existing monitoring, and that the system is released and available to be registered with a new alarm dealer. Failure to do this may prevent you from being monitored by the company of your choice.
