How Do I Replace the Backup Battery in My IQ Panel 5 System?

To replace the backup battery in the IQ Panel 5, power down the panel first via Advanced Settings, then Power Down. Remove the panel from the wall, unplug the 6-pin battery connector, remove the old battery, press the new battery into place, route the cable, and reconnect the connector.

Before You Begin

The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) includes a built-in lithium polymer backup battery that provides up to 24 hours of standby power during an AC power outage. The battery should be replaced when the panel displays a low battery warning or the backup runtime has noticeably decreased. Replace only with an approved battery model: Icon Energy Systems IAN034NA or Ningbo Veken Battery Co. VT27. Using any other battery may present a risk of fire or explosion.

Important safety cautions before starting: do NOT use a screwdriver or anything sharp near the battery — puncturing a lithium polymer battery is a serious fire hazard. Do NOT pull on the battery cable to remove the battery. Always power down the panel completely before disconnecting the battery. Dispose of the used battery properly per your local regulations — do not place in regular household waste.

Steps to Replace the Battery

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and touch Settings. The Settings page opens.

3. Touch Power Down. The panel begins shutting down. Wait for the panel LED to turn off completely before proceeding. Do not disconnect any power before the panel has fully powered down.

4. Disconnect the power supply from the panel. Unplug the power supply from the wall or from the panel's power input after the panel has fully powered down.

5. Remove the panel from the wall mount. Press the locking tab at the bottom of the panel to release it from the backplate and gain access to the interior.

6. Unplug the 6-pin battery connector from the board. Gently grip the connector housing and pull straight out. Do not pull on the cable itself.

7. Remove the old battery. Pull up on the edge of the battery with your finger to release it from the plastic hold-down. Do not use a screwdriver or any sharp tool near the battery.

8. Press the new battery into place and route the cable. Press the replacement battery firmly into the plastic hold-down. Route the cable between the battery and the daughter cards so it does not interfere with reassembly.

9. Plug the 6-pin connector back into the board. Press the connector firmly until it seats completely.

10. Remount the panel and reconnect the power supply. The panel powers on automatically. Once booted, verify that the battery status in the About page shows Charging or Full.

After Replacing the Battery

Once the panel is back on, check the battery status by going to Advanced Settings and touching About. The battery section shows the current status: Charging, Full, or Disconnected. A new battery will show as Charging initially and should reach Full after a few hours connected to power. If the battery shows Disconnected after replacement, check that the 6-pin connector is fully seated. Keeping your panel connected to AC power at all times protects your security system and ensures the battery stays charged for outages. Adding a monitoring plan also ensures your panel communicates to a central station even during power failures using the cellular backup path.
