How Do I Run an Ambient Noise Test on the IQ Panel 5 System?
To run an Ambient Noise Test on the IQ Panel 5, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, touch System Tests, then touch Ambient Noise Test and touch Start. The test only appears when the Panel Ambient Noise Detector setting is enabled. You can stop or reset it at any time.
What the Ambient Noise Test Does
The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) includes a Panel Ambient Noise Detector that uses the panel's built-in microphones to monitor for loud noise above a threshold you set. When the noise passes the threshold, the panel generates an alert. The Ambient Noise Test runs that detector in test form, so you can better understand the noise in the room and whether the detector is likely to trip.
The manual describes the feature as useful for apartments, multi-dwelling buildings, and short term rentals, where noise complaints are a concern. Running the test first shows you what a normal level looks like before you rely on the detector as part of your security system.
Before You Start
The Ambient Noise Test only appears when the Panel Ambient Noise Detector setting is enabled. That setting is disabled by default, so turn it on first if the test is missing. The detector cannot be enabled while the Panel Glass Break Detector is enabled, so you need to choose one or the other.
How to Open the Ambient Noise Test
1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.
3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works. The panel opens the Installer menu as soon as the code is entered.

5. Touch System Tests. This opens the list of tests.

6. Touch Ambient Noise Test. This opens the Ambient Noise Test screen. The test only appears when the Panel Ambient Noise Detector setting is enabled.
How to Run the Test
1. Touch Start. The panel begins measuring the noise around it and shows the results as statistics.

2. Let the test run during normal activity. Run it while the room is in its usual state, such as during the time of day when the area is loudest.
3. Watch the statistics and the circle. The statistics update as the test runs, and the color of the circle shows how close the current noise level is to the threshold.
4. Touch Stop, Resume, or Reset as needed. You can stop the test, resume it, or reset it and start over at any time.
How to Read the Results
The test screen shows five readings. Min Decibels, Max Decibels, Average Decibels, and Current Decibels describe the noise around the panel while the test runs. Threshold Breach Count shows how many times the noise passed the threshold, and the threshold itself is displayed beside it, 85 dB by default.
The circle on the right is a quick visual. Its color corresponds to how close the current decibel value is to the threshold, and the screen labels each state, for example Approaching Threshold. A breach count that stays at zero while the maximum stays well below the threshold means the detector is unlikely to trip in that room under those conditions.
The Settings That Control the Detector
The test reflects four settings in Installer Settings. Panel Ambient Noise Detector turns the feature on and is disabled by default. Ambient Noise Threshold sets the decibel level for an alert, 85 dB by default, and accepts values from 75 to 95 dB. Noise Detector Duration sets how long the panel must hear noise above the threshold before it generates a notification, 20 minutes by default. Noise Detector Popup controls whether the panel shows a local message on the screen when a noise event happens, and it is disabled by default.
After an alert is generated, the detector waits through a 30 second cool down period. To change these settings, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, touch Installation, then touch Installer Settings. The threshold setting is greyed out until the detector is enabled.
If the Test Does Not Appear
If Ambient Noise Test is not in the System Tests list, the Panel Ambient Noise Detector is turned off. Turn it on in Installer Settings, then return to System Tests and the test appears.
Using the Results to Set a Threshold
The test is most useful before you finalize the threshold. If the maximum reading regularly sits close to 85 dB during normal activity, the panel is likely to alert often, and a higher threshold in the 75 to 95 dB range is worth considering. If the room stays quiet and you want earlier alerts, a lower threshold makes the detector more sensitive. Run the test again after any change to confirm the new level behaves the way you expect.
Running the Ambient Noise Test on your IQ Panel 5 shows how loud the room is compared with the detector threshold on the IQ Panel 5.
