Chime Function assumes chiming is already turned on for that sensor and controls the timing, while Chime Type controls the sound itself.

This matters because a chime that only fires on opening behaves very differently day to day than one that fires on both. A front door set to Chime on Openings announces when someone comes in but stays silent when the door is later closed, which is the more common setup for most security system households. A sensor set to chime on both tells you every single time that door moves in either direction, which can be useful for a sensor you want to monitor closely, but noisy for a door that gets used constantly.

How to Set the Chime Function

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.

3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111, though your account admin may have changed it to something else, like 2222.

5. Touch Installation. This opens the Installation menu, which lists Devices, Installer Settings, System Logs, Sirens and Alarms, Security and Arming, and Camera Settings.

6. Touch Devices. This opens the Devices menu, listing Security Sensors, Automation Devices, Bluetooth Devices, and other device categories.

7. Touch Security Sensors. This opens the Security Sensors menu, including Auto Learn Sensor, Add Sensor, Edit Sensor, and other options.

8. Touch Edit Sensor. This shows the list of enrolled sensors available to edit.

9. Touch the pencil icon next to the sensor you want to change. This opens that sensor's full field editor, including Chime Type, Chime Function, and Voice Prompts.

10. Touch the Chime Function dropdown. This reveals the three available timing options.

11. Choose Disabled, Chime on Openings, Chime on Closings, or Chime on Opening and Closing. This sets exactly when, or whether, the chime fires for this specific sensor.

12. Touch Save to apply the change. The new Chime Function takes effect immediately for that sensor.

Setting This Per Sensor, Not Globally

Chime Function is configured individually for each sensor rather than as one system-wide setting, since the manual is explicit that the panel's dynamic pairing lets you program each sensor to have its own unique chime behavior. This means a front door, a back door, and a window sensor can all have completely different Chime Function settings on the same security system, tailored to how each specific entry point gets used in your home.

Common Configurations Worth Considering

A frequently used front or back door usually works best set to Chime on Openings only, so you get an audible heads up when someone enters without a second chime every time it swings shut behind them. A sensor on a door you rarely use, like a side entrance or a garage access door, might be worth setting to Chime on Opening and Closing, since the added noise is less disruptive and gives you a clearer picture of both halves of that door's activity. Windows are often left at whatever the sensor type's default happens to be, since window activity is usually less frequent and the distinction between opening and closing matters less.

Chime Function, Chime Type, and Voice Prompts Together

These three fields all sit next to each other in the sensor editor, and together they control the full audible experience of a single sensor. Chime Function decides when the chime fires, Chime Type decides what it sounds like or whether it's silent, and Voice Prompts decides whether the panel also speaks the sensor's name out loud on top of the chime. A door you want to be very aware of might combine Chime on Opening and Closing with Voice Prompts turned on, giving you both an audible tone and a spoken announcement every time it moves. A door you'd rather barely notice might keep Chime Function set to Openings only, with Voice Prompts turned off entirely, so it stays quiet unless someone actually walks through it.
