How Do I Set Up the IQ5 NS Out of the Box to Arm and Disarm?

To set up the IQ5 NS out of the box, plug the barrel connector into the back of the panel, then hold the power button for 3 seconds. Install and connect the IQ Installer app on your phone, then arm and disarm from a paired keypad, a keyfob, or the Alarm.com app. Pair a keypad or keyfob first.

What This Article Covers

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) has no display, so getting started works a little differently from the other panels. This article covers powering the system on, connecting the IQ Installer app, getting through the Setup Wizard, and arming and disarming for the first time. Activating monitoring service and enrolling sensors are separate tasks that are covered in their own articles.

Have the included 12V DC power supply and your phone ready, since you will need to install the IQ Installer app, and place the system near an outlet. The power supply must be in the same room as the system, and the outlet should be on a circuit that cannot be switched off, since the system protects your security system around the clock.

How to Power On the IQ5 NS

1. Plug the barrel connector into the back of the panel. The IQ5 NS ships with the backup battery already placed and plugged in, so there is nothing to connect for the battery. Use only the power supply that came with the panel, and keep it in the same room as the panel.

2. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. The power button is on the right side of the panel. Hold it until the panel starts up.

How to Install and Connect the IQ Installer App

1. Install the IQ Installer app on your phone. The IQ5 NS has no display, so the app is how you set it up. Download the IQ Installer app from the App Store on an iPhone or from Google Play on an Android phone, then open it.

2. Scan the QR code on the panel with the IQ Installer app. The QR code is on the label on the back of the panel.

3. Press the power button twice within 3 seconds. This opens a pairing window for the IQ Installer app.

4. Check that the Status LED is solid blue. Solid blue means the panel is in IQ Installer pairing mode. Touch Next in the app.

5. Enter the Installer Code. The default is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works.

6. Change the default code when prompted. The app asks you to set a new Installer Code. Choose one and keep it somewhere safe.

How to Get Through the Setup Wizard

1. Follow the Setup Wizard in the IQ Installer app. The wizard walks you through WIFI, a system check, and adding devices. Complete the pages that apply to you. Enrolling sensors and smart devices is covered in separate articles.

How to Arm, Disarm, and Check Status

1. Arm from a paired keypad, a keyfob, or the Alarm.com app. The IQ5 NS has no display, so arming happens through one of these. A keypad or keyfob must be enrolled first, and the Alarm.com app requires an Alarm.com account.

2. Disarm the same way. Enter a valid user code on a paired keypad, use a keyfob, or disarm from the Alarm.com app. The default Master Code is 1234 unless it has been changed.

3. Press the power button once to hear the system status. When the system is disarmed, one press announces alarms, troubles, and status, including Ready to Arm.

Which Arming Mode to Use

Use Stay mode when someone is home. It arms the doors and windows and leaves the interior motion sensors off, so you can move around freely. Use Away mode when everyone is leaving, because it arms the interior motion sensors as well. A new system with no sensors enrolled has little to protect yet, so arming is most useful once your door, window, and motion sensors have been added.

Default Codes to Know

Three default codes come with a new system. The Master Code is 1234 and is the code you use to arm and disarm and to manage users. The Installer Code is 1111 and is used for advanced settings, and the Dealer Code is 2222. Once the system is running, change the Master Code and the Installer Code to codes only you know, and keep the new codes somewhere safe so you can find them later.

If You Cannot Connect the App

If the Status LED is not solid blue, press the power button twice within 3 seconds again while the system is disarmed. The pairing window only opens for a short time, so have the app ready before you press. If the app still cannot connect, hold the power button for 30 seconds to restart the system, then try again.

Powering on your IQ5 NS, connecting the IQ Installer app, and arming and disarming for the first time takes only a few minutes on the IQ5 NS.
