How Do I Turn Off Auto Bypass on the IQ5 Hub?

To turn off Auto Bypass on the IQ5 Hub, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, touch Installation, then Security and Arming, and turn Auto Bypass off. The panel then protests arming when a sensor is open or tampered. It is enabled by default. Manual bypass still works.

What Auto Bypass Does

The IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) can bypass open or tampered sensors automatically when you arm. That is the Auto Bypass setting, and it is enabled by default. With it on, a door left open or a sensor that is tampered does not stop the panel from arming, because the panel bypasses that sensor and arms the rest of your security system.

When you turn Auto Bypass off, the panel stops doing that. An open or tampered sensor is no longer bypassed for you, and the panel protests arming while the condition is present. That gives you a chance to fix the problem before the system arms.

Before You Start

You need the Installer Code, which is 1111 by default, or the Dealer Code, 2222. The manual notes that Auto Bypass shall be disabled for UL and cUL installations, so turn it off when your system needs to meet those requirements. The setting is also turned off and greyed out automatically when the EN Grade 2 setting is enabled.

How to Turn Off Auto Bypass

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.

3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works. The panel opens the Installer menu as soon as the code is entered.

5. Touch Installation. This opens the Installation menu.

6. Touch Security and Arming. Security and Arming is the lock icon in the Installation menu.

7. Turn off Auto Bypass. It is enabled by default. Once it is off, the panel no longer bypasses open or tampered sensors on its own.

What Changes After You Turn It Off

With Auto Bypass off, the panel protests arming when a sensor or panel trouble condition is present. Examples are an open sensor, a tamper, or a low battery. Close the door or window, fix the tamper, or resolve the trouble, and then arm again. If you want to arm with a sensor left open on purpose, you can still bypass that one sensor yourself from the arming options.

Why You Would Turn It Off

Auto Bypass is convenient, but it can arm the panel with a sensor quietly left out of protection. A window that stayed open or a sensor with a tamper would arm without a warning that anything was wrong. Turning it off makes the panel stop and tell you, so nothing is left unprotected without you choosing it.

If the Setting Is Greyed Out

If Auto Bypass is turned off and greyed out, the EN Grade 2 setting is enabled. EN Grade 2 disables Auto Bypass so the panel protests arming when sensor and panel trouble conditions are present, so you cannot turn it back on while EN Grade 2 is enabled.

Using Manual Bypass Instead

Turning Auto Bypass off does not remove your ability to bypass a sensor. When you arm, the arming options let you bypass a specific sensor yourself, which is useful for a window you want to leave open or a sensor that is being repaired. The difference is that you choose the bypass on purpose, so the panel never leaves a sensor out of protection without your knowing.

Which Conditions Stop Arming

With Auto Bypass off, the panel protests arming when a sensor or panel trouble is present. The manual gives open, tamper, and low battery as examples. Open a sensor list or check the status screen to find the sensor that is causing the protest, resolve it, and then arm again.

How to Turn Auto Bypass Back On

To turn it back on, repeat the same steps and switch Auto Bypass on again. The panel then bypasses open or tampered sensors automatically when you arm. Keep in mind that this setting shall be disabled for UL and cUL installations.

Turning off Auto Bypass on your IQ5 Hub makes the panel stop and tell you when a sensor is open or tampered, instead of arming around it on the IQ5 Hub.
