How Do I Turn Off Sensor Voice Announcements on the IQ5 Hub?

To turn off sensor voice announcements on the IQ5 Hub, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, touch Sound, then turn off Sensors in Voice Settings. To silence one sensor, set its Voice Prompts to Off in Edit Sensor. Panel voices are separate. Each setting is separate.

What Sensor Voice Announcements Are

The IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) can speak the name of a sensor out loud when it is opened or tripped. The manual calls these voice prompts. For door and window sensors, voice prompts are on by default. For most other sensors, they are off. Activity Monitoring sensors also report out loud when they are closed.

There are two ways to turn them off. You can turn off all sensor voices at once in the Sound menu, or you can turn off the voice for one sensor in its settings.

How to Turn Off Voices for All Sensors

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.

3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works. The panel opens the Installer menu as soon as the code is entered.

5. Touch Sound. Sound is in the Installer menu, not under Installation.

6. Find Voice Settings and turn off Sensors. Sensors is one of the voice settings. It is enabled by default, and turning it off silences the sensor name announcements on every sensor.

How to Turn Off the Voice for One Sensor

5. Touch Installation. This opens the Installation menu.

6. Touch Devices, then Security Sensors. Security Sensors is the first button in the Devices menu.

7. Touch Edit Sensor, then touch the pencil icon next to the sensor. This opens the sensor's fields.

8. Change Voice Prompts to Off and touch Save. Voice Prompts is a drop down menu with On and Off.

What Stays On

Turning off the Sensors voice setting leaves the other voices alone. Panel voices, Activity Monitoring voices, and Z-Wave device voices each have their own setting in the same Sound menu, and the Voices setting above them is a global switch for all of them. Automation Device Voice Prompts and Automation Remote Voice Prompts, which cover devices controlled at the panel or through Alarm.com, are separate settings as well.

Chimes are separate from voices. The All Chimes setting is its own global switch for sensor, panel, and Activity Monitoring tones, so the beep a sensor makes is not affected when you silence its name.

Silencing Voices at Night

If you only want quiet during certain hours, Nighttime Mode can turn off the display, voices, and chimes between the start and end times you choose. Use it when you want the panel to speak during the day and stay silent overnight, while leaving the voice settings above on.

Why You Would Turn Them Off

A busy door or a motion sensor in a high traffic area can make the voice announcements frequent. Turning them off for a few sensors keeps the useful ones, such as an exterior door, while quieting the rest. If every announcement is a nuisance, the Sound menu switch turns them all off in one step.

Sensor voices are a convenience feature of your security system, so turning them off does not change how alarms are detected or reported. If you add home automation devices, their voices have separate settings, so you can quiet one group and keep the other.

How to Turn Them Back On

To turn sensor voices back on, repeat the same steps and turn the Sensors setting back on, or change a sensor's Voice Prompts back to On. Turning the Sensors setting back on restores the voices for every sensor that has voice prompts enabled, and it leaves each sensor's own choice as you set it.

Turning off sensor voice announcements on your IQ5 Hub quiets the sensor names it speaks, for every sensor or just one on the IQ5 Hub.
