How Do I Turn On Secure Arming on the IQ Panel 5 System?

To turn on Secure Arming on the IQ Panel 5, swipe down and touch Settings, then Advanced Settings, and enter your Installer Code. Next, touch Installation, then Security and Arming, and enable Secure Arming so the panel requires a valid user code every single time that you arm the system.

About Secure Arming

By default, the IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) lets anyone arm the system with a single touch, no code needed. Secure Arming changes that by requiring a valid user code to arm, not just to disarm. It is disabled by default, and turning it on adds a layer of control to your security system so only people with a code can put it into an armed state.

This is useful when you want to be sure arming is deliberate and tied to a specific user, such as in a business or a home where you would rather not have the system armed by just anyone walking up to the panel. Disarming already requires a code, so Secure Arming simply brings arming in line with that same standard. It has no effect on how the system behaves once it is armed.

Before You Begin

Secure Arming is in the Security and Arming menu, which requires the Installer Code (1111 by default) or Dealer Code (2222 by default). The steps below use the Installer Code. Make sure the user codes you want people to arm with are already set up, so the right people can still arm the system once this is on.

Turn On Secure Arming

1. Swipe down and touch Settings. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Settings Tray, then touch SETTINGS.

2. Touch Advanced Settings and enter your Installer Code. Touch ADVANCED SETTINGS, then enter your Installer Code (1111 by default). The Dealer Code (2222) works here too. The panel advances automatically after a valid code.

3. Touch Installation, then Security and Arming. Touch INSTALLATION, then touch SECURITY AND ARMING and find the Secure Arming setting.

4. Enable Secure Arming. Toggle Secure Arming on. From now on, the panel asks for a valid user code before it will arm to any mode. Toggle it off here any time to return to one-touch arming.

Tips

Secure Arming pairs well with the screen lock if you want the panel fully locked down, since the screen lock controls access to the panel overall while Secure Arming specifically governs the act of arming. In most homes, one-touch arming is convenient and Secure Arming is left off, but it is worth enabling anywhere you want arming limited to known users. Remember that disarming always requires a code regardless of this setting.
