What Are the Mounting Guidelines for the 2GIG-DW100-345?

The 2GIG-DW100-345 door/window contact sensor should be mounted on the fixed frame with the magnet on the moving door or window. Proper alignment and placement ensure reliable detection. The sensor operates in temperatures from 32°F to 120°F and should be installed indoors away from moisture.

The 2GIG-DW100-345 works with 2GIG security systems including the GC Touch panel, (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions). The sensor dimensions are 2.42" x 0.58" x 2.42" and the magnet measures 2.42" x 0.07" x 0.58", making it suitable for most standard door and window frames.

Placement Guidelines

  1. Mount the sensor on the door frame and the magnet on the door. If the sensor is used on double doors, mount the sensor on the least-used door and the magnet on the most-used door. This prevents excessive movement, minimizing the possibility of damage to the sensor.
  2. Align the arrow on the magnet with the alignment mark on the sensor. The magnet must be positioned so its arrow points to the alignment mark on the sensor housing for proper reed switch activation.
  3. Maintain a proper gap. The DW100-345 has a maximum gap of 0.94 inches (2.39 cm). The reed sensitivity requires the magnet to be no further from the sensor than this distance when the door or window is closed. If the magnet is too far from the sensor, it will indicate that the door or window is open when it is actually closed.
  4. Place sensors at least 4.7 inches (12 cm) above the floor. This height helps avoid damage from foot traffic and cleaning activities.
  5. Avoid moisture and extreme temperatures. Do not install the sensor in areas exposed to extreme moisture or where temperatures fall outside the 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 49°C) operating range. The sensor can tolerate a humidity level of 5% to 95%, as long as it's non-condensing.
  6. Keep away from metal and electrical wiring. Avoid mounting sensors near large quantities of metal or electrical wiring, such as in a furnace or utility room, as these can interfere with signal transmission.

Installation Steps

To mount the sensor, place the base of the sensor in the desired location and secure with the included screws or adhesive. When mounting the magnet, line up the arrow on the magnet with the middle line on one side of the sensor. Mount the magnet no more than 1 inch (1 cm) away from the sensor. Secure the magnet with included screws or adhesive. Use the included spacers if needed to align the magnet with the sensor on uneven surfaces.

External Input Option

The DW100-345 includes an external input that accepts N/C or N/O dry contact devices. To use the external input, repeat the mounting instructions above, route the wire through the access hole, attach the external contact wires to the sensor terminal block, and configure the contact device as NO or NC at the panel. This feature allows you to connect additional wired sensors to the wireless transmitter. Both the reed switch and the external input can be used at the same time. When used this way, this single sensor will use two separate zones.

Following proper mounting guidelines ensures your 2GIG-DW100-345 reliably detects door and window activity for your monitored system. Correct alignment and placement maximize signal strength and battery life.
