What is a Honeywell Home LTE-21V?

The Honeywell Home LTE-21V is an LTE communicator designed exclusively for use with the Honeywell Home VISTA 21iPLTE System. This is a plug-in communicator that connects easily with the VISTA 21iPLTE board. This communicator provides service across the fast and reliable Verizon LTE Network.

A Honeywell Alarm Panel needs an AlarmNet Communicator to connect with the AlarmNet360 Servers and gain access to Total Connect 2.0. The Honeywell Home VISTA 21iPLTE System actually already has a built-in IP communicator for this purpose. But a user might want to add a cellular communicator for greater reliability. Internet outages are fairly common, and an outage can take a panel offline if no backup communication path is available. Cellular service is extremely reliable, and a strong connection will almost never go down or become unavailable. Having reliable cell backup can mean the difference between keeping the panel online at all times and temporarily losing connectivity due to an internet outage.

When you add a Honeywell Home LTE-21V to a VISTA 21iPLTE Panel, you are adding cellular backup to the system. The VISTA 21iPLTE will still be able to use its built-in IP communicator if it is enabled. In fact, that will continue to serve as the primary communication path. But if the internet goes down, the panel will be able to automatically switch over to its cellular backup so that it remains connected with AlarmNet360. You can also disable the IP communicator and have the panel use exclusively cellular. But most users will keep IP as the primary path and have cellular as a backup option.

In order to use and activate a Honeywell Home LTE-21V, you must have an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular service. This is to cover the costs that your alarm monitoring company pays to the cellular service provider for maintaining service. If you are an Alarm Grid customer, then you can choose from any Gold or Platinum Level Plan. This includes both Self and Full Plans. Remember that a Full Plan from Alarm Grid includes service from a central monitoring station, while a Self Plan does not.
