What Is IQ Installer and What Can It Do on the IQ Panel 5 System?

The IQ Installer app lets an installer program the IQ Panel 5 over WIFI from an iOS or Android phone, in place of the built-in touchscreen. To connect, go to Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code, touch IQ Installer, and scan the QR code. Search the stores for IQ Installer Interface.

What the IQ Installer App Is

The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) supports local installer programming through the IQ Installer app, which the app stores list as IQ Installer Interface. The manual describes it as a way to program the system over WIFI from an iOS or Android device, in place of the built-in touchscreen. It connects to the panel's own access point, so the programming happens locally between your phone and the panel.

The app is available from the Apple and Google Play stores. Search for the phrase IQ Installer Interface to find it. Installers use it to set up a security system without working through every menu on the panel's screen.

How to Connect the App to the Panel

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. This opens the Settings Tray with quick controls.

2. Touch Settings. This opens the main Settings page.

3. Touch Advanced Settings. This prompts you to enter a code before continuing.

4. Enter the Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1111. The Dealer Code, 2222, also works. The panel opens the Installer menu as soon as the code is entered.

6. Scan the QR code with the IQ Installer Interface app. A popup titled Program Using IQ Installer Interface shows a QR code. Open the app on your phone and scan it to connect to the panel.

What the App Can Do

The IQ5 NS manual, which uses the same app, shows what it handles. It enrolls security sensors through Auto Learn, where you open or tamper a sensor and the app displays its code. It lets you set each sensor's partition name, type, group, name, chime type, and voice prompts from drop down lists. It manages user codes, supports up to 242 of them, and it pairs IQ Remote secondary touchscreens, up to three per panel.

The Configuration menu in the app also covers About information, Dealer Branding, Reboot, Power Down, WIFI, Date and Time, Sound, Upgrade Software, and Partitions. The Setup Wizard can be launched from the app as well. These are the same kinds of tasks you handle from the Installer menu on the panel, only done from a phone.

What You Need

You need an iOS or Android phone or tablet with the IQ Installer Interface app installed, and the Installer Code, which is 1111 by default, or the Dealer Code, 2222. The panel opens the QR code popup after you enter either code and touch IQ Installer. Keep the phone within WIFI range of the panel during programming.

When to Use the App

Use the app when you have a long list of tasks, such as enrolling several sensors, entering many user codes, or naming devices. Working in the app is a convenient alternative to the panel's screen for those jobs. For a quick change to one setting, the panel's own menus work just as well.

Which Codes Open the IQ Installer Option

The manual lists the Installer Code, 1111 by default, and the Dealer Code, 2222 by default, for the IQ Installer option. The Master Code is not listed for it. This keeps installer-level programming limited to the people who service the system, such as your installer or dealer. If you do not know the code, contact the company that installed or monitors your system, since changing installer-level settings is their role, and the codes are often changed from the defaults.

After You Finish Programming

When you are done, close the app and let the panel return to its normal screen. Anything you changed through the app is saved on the panel, the same as changes made from its own menus. It is a good habit to run a quick sensor test after any large round of changes, so you can confirm every device still reports the way you expect.

If the QR Code Does Not Connect

If the app does not connect after scanning, touch Cancel on the popup to close it, then touch IQ Installer again to display a fresh QR code and scan it once more. Confirm the phone has the latest version of the app installed. If it still does not connect, contact Alarm Grid support so we can help.

The IQ Installer app lets you program your IQ Panel 5 from a phone over WIFI instead of using the built-in touchscreen on the IQ Panel 5.
