Why Can't I Clear a Trouble Condition On My 2GIG GC Touch?

The 2GIG GC Touch displays a trouble condition when something requires attention, such as an open Day zone, low battery, or tamper. Trouble alerts cannot be manually cleared because they reflect real-time system status. The display clears automatically once you correct the trouble condition.

Understanding Trouble Conditions

The 2GIG GC Touch (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) is designed to keep you informed about your security system's status at all times. When the panel detects a trouble condition, it displays a status message and may emit a warning beep every 30 seconds, depending on programming. A solid white LED on the panel indicates that system faults are present and the system is not ready to arm.

Bypassing vs. Clearing Trouble Conditions

When viewing the fault list, you may notice a Bypass All button at the bottom of the screen. It is important to understand that bypassing a zone is not the same as clearing a trouble condition. Bypassing tells the GC Touch to temporarily ignore the fault or trouble condition so you can arm the system. However, the underlying issue still exists, and the trouble will reappear after you disarm. The ability to bypass is useful when you need to arm quickly and cannot immediately fix a problem, such as a sensor low battery.

To truly clear a trouble condition, you must resolve the physical issue causing it. Once the battery is replaced, or the tamper secured, the panel automatically detects the restored status and removes the trouble condition from the list. Bypassed zones provide no protection while bypassed, so this should only be used as a temporary measure. For monitored systems, bypassed zones will not trigger alerts if violated during the armed period.

Common Trouble Conditions and Solutions

Different trouble conditions require specific solutions. The panel cannot clear these alerts until the physical issue is addressed and the sensor reports the updated status to the panel.

Sensor Faults

Door and window sensors report their status in real time. If a door is programmed as a Day Zone, it reports as a trouble if the door is opened while the system is disarmed. Close the door completely until the magnet aligns with the sensor, and the trouble should clear within seconds. Motion detectors and other sensors may show a tamper trouble if the cover has been removed or if the sensor has been knocked off the wall. Reattach the sensor cover and be sure the sensor is properly mounted to correct the trouble condition and clear the display.

Power and Battery Issues

The panel monitors its own AC power and battery status. An AC failure trouble appears if the panel loses its primary power, which clears once power is restored. Low battery conditions on the panel or individual sensors require the battery to be charged or replaced. Over time, the panel's rechargeable battery will lose its ability to hold a charge. When that happens, it should be replaced. Rechargeable panel batteries usually last around three to five years, depending on use. The panel's internal rechargeable battery serves to keep the panel working during power outages and displays a warning icon when depleted.

For wireless sensors, replace the sensor battery to clear the low battery trouble. If the low battery notification doesn't clear immediately, try faulting and restoring the sensor. This could mean opening and closing a door, walking in front of a motion detector, or testing a glass break detector. For certain sensors like glass break detectors or environmental sensors, refer to the device's installation guide for proper testing steps.

Communication Troubles

The GC Touch uses WIFI and cellular connections to communicate with Alarm.com and a central station, if applicable. Communication troubles let you know that the panel cannot reach the server. Check your internet connection, ensure the WIFI network is operational, and verify cellular signal strength. Once connectivity is restored, the trouble condition clears automatically.

Silencing the Warning Beep

When a trouble condition occurs on the 2GIG GC Touch, such as a sensor tamper, the panel provides both visual and audible alerts to notify the user. Alarm Grid tested this using a 5816 transmitter: Our door/window sensor was already showing a fault because the magnet was away from the sensor. This caused the panel to display the zone name and an open condition.

When the sensor cover was removed, triggering the tamper switch, the notification icon on the panel began flashing orange and the status display updated to include a tamper condition. At the same time, the panel emitted a two-tone warning beep every 30 seconds. If a trouble condition occurs while the system is in Night Mode, the warning beep is silenced during the 12 hour Night Mode window.

Tapping the flashing notification icon in the top menu bar opens the Alerts tab, where the tamper message is listed. It can be acknowledged using the Acknowledge All option. Once acknowledged, the panel records the date and time of the acknowledgement but the repeating alert tone continues until the condition is corrected or the sensor is bypassed. After the sensor cover is properly replaced, the tamper status display clears automatically and is removed from the Alerts screen. The panel then returns to showing only the original open status for the sensor. Throughout this process, no user code is required, allowing trouble conditions to be viewed and acknowledged quickly without affecting system security.

Clearing trouble conditions on the 2GIG GC Touch requires addressing the physical issue causing the alert. Bypassing allows you to silence the alert and arm, but only fixing the problem truly clears the trouble display. Once doors are closed, batteries are replaced, or covers are restored, the panel automatically updates its status.
