Will 5899B Magnets Work on a Honeywell 5816 Sensor?
The 5816 sensor has an internal reed switch. When this switch is closed, the 5816 registers that the door or window it’s protecting is closed. The 5899B magnet is compatible with the 5816. When the magnet and 5816 are close enough together, and properly aligned, the magnet will activate and close the 5816’s reed switch, letting it know that the door or window is closed.
The 5899B is a magnet designed to be used with Honeywell’s wireless door and window sensors. Even though the 5899B is compatible with the 5816 wireless sensor, its smaller size and smooth aesthetic styling can make it stand out when placed next to the square 5816 sensor. The 5899B is a great magnet to use with the 5815 Aesthetic Door and Window sensor and the 5820L Wireless Slim Line Door and Window sensor. The 5899B is only available in the color white as are the 5815 and 5820L sensors. The 5899B ships with a plastic spacer that can be used to help line the magnet with the sensor on doors with uneven trim or surfaces.
The 5816 Wireless sensor is available in the color white and brown. As the 5899B is only made in the color white, if you have a brown 5816, the 5899 magnet may be a better aesthetic choice. The 5899 is larger than the 5899B and compared to the 5899B, has a more square appearance. The magnet must be within 1/2" of the 5816 sensor when the door or window is closed in order to register as closed by the 5816. Both the 5899B and 5899 can be mounted by screwing them onto a surface or permanent, double stick, adhesive tape can be used to mount the magnets.
