Will an Interlogix Simon XT Work w/o a Phone Line?
Yes, an Interlogix Simon XT will work without a phone line. The panel can still receive monitoring service using a cellular connection. Either a phone line or cellular service is needed for the panel to be monitored remotely. The panel can be used as a local system with no communicator.
In order for an alarm system to receive monitoring service, it must be able to send outbound signals. This is the only way for the system to alert a central station or an end user about an alarm event. A Simon XT System can only send out communication signals using a telephone line or using a cellular communicator. Without one of these two communication methods, a Simon XT System will not be able to receive monitoring service. This is called a "local" system.
Out of the box, a Simon XT System can only use telephone communication. In order to use cellular service, a cellular communicator must be installed inside the system. This is arguably the most important upgrade that can be made for a Simon XT System. Cellular communication is almost never down, and it is not affected by normal power outages. With LTE speeds, cellular communication is faster than ever.
Additionally, cellular service is the only way for an alarm system to sync with Alarm.com. This service is used for arming or disarming the system, checking sensor status and controlling Z-Wave devices. By using the Alarm.com Mobile App, these actions can be performed remotely as well. For those reasons, we strongly encourage users to upgrade their Simon XT Systems by installing cellular modules.
Remember, an alarm monitoring plan with cellular service is needed for the system to use a cellular connection. Without this type of monitoring plan, the Simon XT will only be able to use a traditional phone line. Make sure that you choose, or upgrade to, an appropriate monitoring plan before attempting to use cellular service with your Simon XT System.
