Will My Honeywell L5100 Work w/ SmartThings?

Yes, your Honeywell L5100 will work with SmartThings. This setup involves setting the L5100 as a secondary controller, while the SmartThings Hub serves as the primary. Any Z-Wave device paired with the SmartThings Hub will be automatically pushed over to the L5100 and TC2 if set up.

To make the Honeywell L5100 Z-Wave compatible, a Honeywell L5100-ZWAVE Card must be installed. Without this module, there will be no way to use your L5100 with Samsung SmartThings. Consider adding this module to be a pre-requisite before trying to join your Honeywell L5100 with SmartThings. Adding that module makes the L5100 compatible with Z-Wave technology. You can then complete the pairing process like normal.

If you set your Honeywell L5100 as a secondary controller, all your Z-Wave devices currently paired with the SmartThings Hub will also be made available on the L5100. This will make the L5100 Panel a convenient spot for operating all your Z-Wave devices, whether they are paired with the L5100 or the SmartThings Hub. You will also be able to control the devices through Total Connect 2.0 if the panel is set up for that service.

One important thing to remember is that the SmartThings Hub supports Z-Wave Plus technology, while the L5100 does not. If you have a Z-Wave Plus device, it will need to be paired with the SmartThings Hub if you want to maximize its battery life and signal range. You can still pair a Z-Wave Plus device with the L5100, but it will behave like a classic Z-Wave device.

If you want to set the L5100 as a secondary controller to Samsung SmartThings, doing so is very simple. Put the L5100 System and the Samsung SmartThings Hub in close physical proximity. Open up the SmartThings App, and select "+ Add a Thing". Next, go to your L5100. From the main screen, choose Automation > down arrow > Tools > Advanced Tools > Master Code or Installer Code (1234 and 4112 by default) > Learn. This will initiate the pairing process. If successful, no further action is needed, and you can return to the main system screen.

NOTE: If devices have been paired directly with the L5100, they will not automatically transfer to the SmartThings Hub after the L5100 is paired with it. In order to work with SmartThings, these devices will need to be excluded from the L5100, and included with SmartThings. If multiple devices have been paired to the L5100, the “Reset Controller” option can be used to clear the L5100. From there, each device should be excluded, and then included with the SmartThings Hub. Once that has been done, follow the steps above to pair the L5100 with SmartThings, and all the devices from SmartThings will be transferred over to the L5100. These devices can then be included in scenes associated with the L5100, programmed either locally, or through Total Connect 2.0.
