Can I Use a Honeywell IPCAM-WOC1 w/o a System?

Yes, you can use a Honeywell IPCAM-WOC1 without a system. The camera interfaces with the Total Connect 2.0 service, which is normally used with a Honeywell Alarm System. However, Alarm Grid has a standalone video monitoring plan that can be used without actually owning a security system.

The Honeywell IPCAM-WOC1 is one of the most versatile and advanced Total Connect Cameras available. It is a 1080P HD security camera that is weather-resistant and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It has an IR range of 65 feet, making it perfect for capturing footage in dark areas, and at night. The device uses video analytics that detect image pixel changes. This lets it know when to start capturing any activity. It communicates with a local 2.4 GHz WIFI network. It's worth mentioning that the Honeywell IPCAM-WOC1 is also sometimes sold under the name Lyric OC1.

As part of the Honeywell HD Camera Lineup, the IPCAM-WOC1 cannot interface directly with any alarm system. The camera can only be viewed from the Total Connect 2.0 platform. Total Connect 2.0 can only be accessed through the website or through the Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App on Android and iOS devices. Thanks to our standalone video monitoring plan, it is possible to use Total Connect 2.0 without owning an alarm system. By doing this, no options for Arming or Disarming a system will be available from the main Total Connect 2.0 menu.

Interestingly, most of the legacy Honeywell IP Cameras, could actually be streamed directly to the screen of either a Honeywell LYNX Touch or a Honeywell Lyric Panel. Of course, you needed one of these alarm systems in order to do so. Streaming directly to a panel is now possible with the newer HD cameras and the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS or the Resideo PROA7PLUSC. You still need access to Total Connect 2.0 if you want to use the HD cameras in this way. The panel must be activated with some type of monitoring plan that includes TC2. The same rule applies to the Alarm.com Cameras requiring access to Alarm.com.

Alternatively, if you want a security camera that can be used without Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com, you might consider one of the Arlo Cameras. But keep in mind that you will still need to use the Arlo Base Station for most Arlo Camera models. Still, this can be a great option if you want a security camera setup without having to use one of the platforms commonly associated with security systems.
