Does a Honeywell Lyric Security System Allow for Different User Codes?

Yes, a Honeywell Lyric Security System does allow for different user codes. New user codes can be set up through the Users Menu, which can be accessed using the Master Code. Up to 48 different codes can be created. But there can only be one of the Master, Installer, Duress and Guest codes.

Adding a new user code will allow that code to be used for arming and disarming the system and for bypassing sensors. These codes will essentially perform the same functions as the Master Code, except for the fact that the Master Code will be able to access a greater number of system menus. Up to 44 user codes can be added to the system. The other codes are reserved for the Master, Installer, Duress and Guest codes.

The Installer Code is used primarily for accessing system programming. There are many system settings that can only be changed using the Installer Code. Although the Installer Code can disarm the system if it was used to arm it, we do not recommend arming your system with this code. We also encourage users to keep this code at its default of 4112. Keeping this code at the default does not present a security risk, as long as the user does not arm their system using this code.

The duress code will make it appear as though the system had been disarmed using a valid user code. But in actuality, the code will send out a secret distress signal through the AlarmNet servers to the monitoring station, indicating that there is trouble, and emergency help is needed immediately. This code is typically used in emergency hostage situations, in which an intruder is demanding that the user disarm their system and the user wants to request immediate help. Finally, a guest code is like a user code, but it can only disarm the system if it was used to arm it in the first place.

If a user wants to add additional user codes to the system, they should access the Users Menu. This menu can be accessed by starting from the main screen of the system and choosing Security > Tools > Master Code (default 1234, but likely changed) > Users. The user will then be able to add, edit and delete system codes. However, they will not be able to edit the Installer Code from this menu. The Installer Code can only be changed from the Programming Menu using the current Installer Code.

Please note that user codes can also be changed and added through the Total Connect 2.0 interactive service after the Lyric System has been associated with the user's Total Connect account.
