Does the 2GIG SMKT3-345 Have Low-Temp and Freeze Detection?
Yes, the 2GIG SMKT3-345 does have low-temp and freeze detection. The low temperature sensor will activate at temperatures of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. However, mechanisms are put in place to prevent any false alarms. Activation of the freeze sensor will cause an auxiliary alarm.
The SMKT3-345 is a wireless smoke, heat and freeze detector that is manufactured by 2GIG. It communicates at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz, and it is compatible with the 2GIG GC2, 2GIG GC3, Honeywell Lyric Controller and IQ Panel 2 Plus with 345 MHz Daughtercard. This is an excellent device for anyone who wants a smoke and heat detector with the added functionality of a freeze sensor. It is powered using three AAA batteries.
Although smoke and heat detection serve as the primary selling points of the SMKT3-345, the freeze detector is a nice added bonus. The freeze sensor is set to activate with temperatures of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. However, the sensor will not immediately activate upon detecting a temperature beneath this threshold. Instead, countermeasures are put in place to prevent false alarms, while still providing dependable performance.
Whenever a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower is detected, it must sustain itself for three minutes. This counts as one activation. The freeze sensor must be activated three times for an alarm to occur. In other words, the freeze sensor will only activate after at least nine minutes of detection. This feature is very important, as it is essential for preventing any false alarms that may otherwise occur.
When setting up the SMKT3-345 for freeze detection, it will require a wireless zone exclusively for this function. This is in addition to a separate wireless zone for fire detection. The freeze detection zone will use Loop Number 3. We recommend using a Response Type of "08 - 24-Hour Auxiliary" for this zone.
