Honeywell 5800MINI vs Honeywell 5814

The Honeywell 5800MINI and the Honeywell 5814 are both wireless surface-mount door and window contacts. They are both small in size, and they operate in the same manner. They are also compatible with the same alarm systems. But the 5800MINI has a significantly farther range than the 5814.

The 5800MINI and the 5814 are actually very similar sensors at first glance. They are both surface-mount sensors that consist of a sensor and a magnet. They are also both uni-directional devices that communicate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz. This makes the two devices compatible with the same alarm systems. The 5800MINI and the 5814 will work with any Honeywell Panel, as well as any 2GIG Panel. If they are being used with a VISTA System, then a wireless receiver must be added.

Additionally, the two devices function in the same manner. The user will mount the sensor on the door or window frame. The magnet will then be placed on the door or window itself within about a half inch of the sensor. Both the sensor and the magnet can be mounted with screws, or with double-sided foam tape. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause an internal reed switch inside the sensor to activate. When this happens, the sensor will forward a signal to the alarm system to perform the programmed response for that zone. This could include requiring a system disarm or triggering an instant alarm.

However, there are differences between the two sensors. For one, their dimensions are slightly different. The 5800MINI measures 1"W x 2.2"H x 0.25"D. The 5814 measures 1.1875"W x 1.5"H x 0.625"D. Also the 5800MINI has a considerably longer range than the 5814. The 5800MINI can operate at a maximum distance of up to 200 feet away from the panel. But the 5814 can only function at up to 100 feet away from the panel. Keep in mind that obstructions may reduce these ranges. Finally, the 5800MINI includes LED status indication lights, while the 5814 does not.
