How Do I Add a New Sensor to the IQ5 NS Security System?
To add a sensor to the IQ5 NS, open the IQ Installer app on your mobile device and navigate to Installation, then Devices, then Security Sensors. Select Auto Learn Sensor, press Start Autolearn, trip or tamper the sensor to enroll it, configure the sensor fields, and select Save to complete.
Before You Begin
The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) supports up to 128 security sensors, including PowerG and legacy RF devices. All sensor configuration on the IQ5 NS is performed through the IQ Installer app on your iOS or Android device. If you have not yet connected the IQ Installer app to your panel, see our guide on setting up the IQ5 NS with the IQ Installer app before proceeding.
Before adding a new sensor, make sure the panel is disarmed and you have the Installer Code (default 1111) ready. Keep the sensor nearby for enrollment. If you are adding a PowerG or PowerG+ sensor, have the sensor powered on and within range of the panel. The IQ5 NS offers two methods for adding sensors: Auto Learn and Manual Add. Auto Learn is the fastest approach because the panel detects the sensor automatically when you trip or tamper the device.
Adding a Sensor Using Auto Learn
1. Open the IQ Installer app and navigate to Installation, then Devices, then Security Sensors. The Security Sensors page displays options for Auto Learn Sensor, Add Sensor, Edit Sensor, Delete Sensor, Sensor Status, and Sensor Group.
Navigate to Devices from the IQ Installer app on the IQ5 NS.
2. Select Auto Learn Sensor, then press Start Autolearn. The panel enters listening mode and begins scanning for new sensor signals.
3. Trip or tamper the sensor you want to add. For a door/window sensor, open the contact. For a motion sensor, walk in front of it. For a PowerG sensor, press and hold the enroll button until the yellow LED flashes. The IQ Installer app displays a popup with the sensor DL code asking if you want to add this device.
The IQ Installer app detects the sensor and displays the auto-learn notification.
4. Select OK to confirm the sensor, then configure the sensor fields. The sensor configuration screen appears with fields for Partition Name, Sensor Type, Sensor Group, Sensor Name, Chime Type, and Voice Prompts. Use the dropdown menus to set each field appropriately for your installation. Sensor Type determines whether the device is a Door/Window, Motion, Smoke, or other type. Sensor Group controls the behavior of the sensor during arming and alarm events.
Configure sensor fields after auto-learning on the IQ5 NS.
5. Select Save to complete the sensor enrollment. The panel saves the sensor configuration and returns to the Auto Learn screen, ready to enroll the next sensor. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each additional sensor you need to add.
Tips
If you prefer to add a sensor manually instead of using Auto Learn, select Add Sensor from the Security Sensors menu. You will need to enter the sensor DL ID found on the back of the device, then configure the same fields described above. The IQ Panel 5 also supports QR code scanning for compatible S-Line sensors, which auto-populates the DL ID field when you hold the sensor box label in front of the panel camera.
Compatible sensors include the IQ Door/Window-S for standard entry points, the IQ Motion-S for interior motion detection, and PowerG options like the PGP9945E for extended wireless range. When the panel detects an S-Line sensor during auto-learn, it automatically sets the Source field to S-Line. For PowerG sensors, the Source field changes to PowerG.
