How Do I Change the Z-Wave Frequency Region on the IQ5 NS?
The IQ5 NS manual does not list a Z-Wave frequency region setting, so it gives no steps for changing the region. On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, the setting sets itself automatically and lets you choose from 12 regions in Z-Wave Settings. Alarm Grid support can confirm what applies.
Does the IQ5 NS Have a Z-Wave Frequency Region Setting
The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) does not list a Z-Wave Frequency Region setting in its manual. On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, the Zwave Frequency Region setting sets itself by install region and Z-Wave hardware, or lets you choose from 12 regions. The IQ5 NS manual describes no such setting for its Z-Wave radio.
That means the manual gives no steps for changing the Z-Wave frequency region on the system.
What the Setting Does on Other Panels
On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, the setting varies by region by default and sets automatically based on the install region and the Z-Wave hardware in the panel. You can also choose the region manually from United States, United States Long Range, European Union, Australia/New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Israel, Russia, China, Japan, or Korea. It appears on the Z-Wave Settings page and in Installer/Dealer Settings.
Z-Wave on the IQ5 NS
The IQ5 NS still supports Z-Wave devices. You enroll them with the IQ Installer app, and the Z-Wave tests in the app, such as Rediscover Network, Neighbor Info, and Counters, help you check how they communicate. The manual just does not list a region choice for the system.
If You Need to Change the Region
If your system is installed outside the region its Z-Wave hardware expects, or your devices are not responding, contact Alarm Grid support before you change anything. We can confirm what applies to your hardware, since the manual does not describe a region setting for it.
If You Want to Choose the Region
If you need to choose the Z-Wave frequency region yourself, the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub both include the Zwave Frequency Region setting. All panels in this family share the same core security system features, so the choice comes down to whether you want a display and the settings that come with it.
How the Panels Differ
The IQ5 NS is managed through the IQ Installer app and has no display. It leaves out settings that live on an on-panel page or that the manual does not list, while keeping the same core detection, arming, and reporting. For most homes the difference does not matter, because the Z-Wave region sets automatically on the panels that have the setting.
Z-Wave Tests You Can Run in the App
The IQ Installer app has Z-Wave tests that show how your devices communicate. Rediscover Network refreshes the network, and Neighbor Info shows which devices each device can reach. Counters track how many commands succeeded and how many failed, including commands that failed because the network was busy or had no route. If a device is not responding, these tests show whether the problem is the device or the network.
What to Have Ready Before You Contact Support
Gather the details support will ask for. Note the model of each Z-Wave device that is not responding and the region it is made for. Write down where the system is installed, and look up the panel software version on the About page in the IQ Installer app. With those details, Alarm Grid support can confirm whether anything about the Z-Wave region applies to your system and what to do next.
Planning Your Z-Wave Devices
Before you buy Z-Wave lights, locks, or thermostats, confirm they are made for the region where the system is installed. Choosing devices for the right region avoids most Z-Wave problems, whichever panel you use. Enroll and test each device with the system before you mount it permanently.
The IQ5 NS manual does not list a Z-Wave frequency region setting, but the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub let you choose from 12 regions on the IQ5 NS.
