How Do I Disable the Fire Panic Button on the IQ5 NS System?

To disable the Fire Panic button on the IQ5 NS, open the IQ Installer app, go to Installation, Sirens and Alarms, then turn off Fire Panic. This setting is enabled by default on every panel, and turning it off removes it from a paired keypad's options entirely and right away today.

What Turning Off Fire Panic Does

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) supports three panic triggers by default: Police, Fire, and Auxiliary, accessible through a paired keypad or the Alarm.com app. Fire Panic is enabled out of the box, and triggering it sends an immediate fire emergency signal to your monitoring center, the same as a triggered smoke detector would. Disabling this setting removes the Fire Panic option entirely, rather than just requiring extra confirmation to use it.

This is a manual panic trigger, separate from automatic fire detection through an actual smoke or heat detector on your security system. Disabling Fire Panic doesn't affect any enrolled smoke detectors, which continue to trigger a fire alarm automatically regardless of this setting. It only removes the manual trigger someone could use to start a fire emergency by hand.

How to Disable the Fire Panic Button

1. Open the IQ Installer app. This is the mobile app used to configure the IQ5 NS, since the panel has no display of its own.

2. Connect to the panel. The app communicates with the IQ5 NS over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to load its configuration menus.

3. Enter the Installer Code when prompted. The default Installer Code is 1111, though your account admin may have changed it to something else, like 2222.

4. Touch Installation. This opens the Installation menu, which lists Devices, Installer Settings, System Logs, Sirens and Alarms, Security and Arming, and Camera Settings.

5. Touch Sirens and Alarms. This opens the list of siren and panic-related settings, including Police Panic, Fire Panic, Auxiliary Panic, and Audible Siren for Wireless Supervisory Failures.

6. Find Fire Panic in the list. This setting is enabled by default, meaning Fire Panic is currently available as a panic option.

7. Turn off Fire Panic. Once disabled, Fire Panic is no longer available as a panic option on any paired keypad.

Why You Might Disable This

Some households disable manual panic triggers they don't expect to use, reducing the chance of an accidental activation triggering a false fire dispatch. This is a reasonable choice if your property already has reliable automatic smoke detection and you'd rather not have a manual fire trigger available at all. Commercial installations sometimes disable Fire Panic specifically as part of a broader compliance configuration, where local fire code or an alarm company's standard setup calls for automatic detection only, without a manual panic option.

Police and Auxiliary Panic Are Separate Settings

Disabling Fire Panic has no effect on Police Panic or Auxiliary Panic, since each of the three panic triggers has its own independent enable and disable toggle in the same Sirens and Alarms menu. If your goal is to remove all three manual panic triggers rather than just Fire Panic, you'll need to disable each one separately in the app rather than expecting one setting to control all three at once.

If Fire Panic Still Appears After Disabling It

If Fire Panic still appears as an option after turning this setting off, confirm the change actually saved in the app before backing out of Sirens and Alarms, since some toggles need a moment to register. If you're checking a paired keypad and it still shows the old option, it may need to sync with the panel again, so try disconnecting and reconnecting the IQ Installer app to confirm the change has fully propagated.

Weighing the Tradeoff Before Disabling

A manual panic trigger exists as a backup, useful in situations an automatic smoke detector might not catch quickly enough, like a fire starting somewhere without direct sensor coverage, or a scenario where someone notices smoke or fire before the detector itself registers it. Removing that manual option means relying entirely on automatic detection, which is generally reliable but not instantaneous in every situation. Before disabling Fire Panic, it's worth considering whether the accidental-activation risk you're trying to avoid outweighs the value of having a manual backup available on a paired keypad during an actual emergency.

Disabling the Fire Panic button on the IQ5 NS removes the manual trigger while leaving automatic smoke detector alarms fully intact on the IQ5 NS.
