How Do I Edit a Zone on the IQ5 NS Alarm Security System?
To edit a zone on the IQ5 NS, open the IQ Installer app, navigate to Security Sensors, select the sensor you want to change, update any field you need, then save your changes. Every setting for that specific zone can be updated except the sensor's own permanently locked DL ID number.
What You Can Edit on a Zone
On the IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE), every zone, meaning every enrolled PowerG sensor or other RF device, can be edited after the fact through the IQ Installer app. Every field is open to change except the DL ID or Sensor ID, which is locked once the sensor is enrolled since it's tied to the physical device itself. That means you can rename a zone, move it to a different partition, change its type or group, or adjust its chime and voice prompt settings without deleting and re-enrolling the sensor from scratch.
The editable fields are the same ones you set during enrollment: Partition Name, Sensor Type, Sensor Group, Sensor Name, Chime Type, Voice Prompts, Bypass, and Source. The Source field reflects the sensor's incoming frequency and generally isn't something you'd change manually, since it's set automatically based on the RF daughter card and sensor type detected during pairing. Since the IQ5 NS has no display, all of this editing happens through the app rather than on the panel itself.
How to Edit a Zone
1. Open the IQ Installer app and connect to the panel. The app communicates directly with the IQ5 NS over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to load its configuration menus.
2. Enter the Installer Code when prompted. The default Installer Code is 1111, though your account admin may have changed it to something else, like 2222.
3. Navigate to Devices, then Security Sensors. This opens the list of enrolled sensors along with options to add, edit, or delete them.

4. Select the zone you want to edit from the sensor list. This opens that zone's full set of editable fields, pre-populated with its current settings.

5. Change whichever fields need updating, then save. You can update the name, type, group, chime settings, voice prompts, bypass setting, or partition assignment, all from this same screen.

Why Editing a Zone Beats Re-Enrolling It
Deleting and re-adding a sensor just to change its name or group is unnecessary and introduces more room for error than simply editing the existing zone. Re-enrollment means walking through the entire pairing process again, tripping the sensor, waiting for the app to detect its DL ID, and reconfiguring every field from scratch, when the only thing that actually needed to change was, for example, the sensor's name after a room got repurposed. Editing preserves the zone's history and its position in your security system numbering, which matters if any automations, reports, or monitoring account settings reference that zone by name or number.
If a Field Won't Save
If a change doesn't stick after saving, back out of the sensor edit screen and reopen that zone to confirm whether the update actually applied, since some fields take a moment to sync to the panel. If the Sensor Type selection seems to restrict which Sensor Groups are available, that's expected behavior, since Sensor Groups are tied directly to the Sensor Type and only show options relevant to that type. If you're trying to change the DL ID itself and can't, that's also expected, since the DL ID is permanently locked to the physical sensor and can only be changed by deleting and replacing it with a different device entirely.
Common Reasons to Edit a Zone
A few situations come up often enough that it's worth knowing they're handled through editing rather than re-enrollment. Moving into a home with sensors already installed by a previous owner often means renaming generic zone labels to something meaningful for your household. Enabling partitions after sensors are already enrolled means going back through each zone in the app to assign it to the correct partition, since that field doesn't populate itself retroactively. A sensor that's chiming too often, or not chiming at all through a paired keypad, usually just needs its Chime Type field adjusted rather than any hardware change. And if a family member finds the voice announcement distracting on a specific door, toggling Voice Prompts off for just that one zone in the app is a quick fix that doesn't affect any other sensor.
Editing a zone on the IQ5 NS lets you keep your sensor names, groups, and settings accurate as your household changes, without ever needing to re-enroll a working sensor on the IQ5 NS.
