How Do I Replace the Backup Battery in the IQ5 NS Panel?
To replace the backup battery in the IQ5 NS, power down the panel using the IQ Installer app under Configuration, then Power Down, or press the power button twice within 3 seconds. Once off, unplug the 6-pin battery connector, remove the old battery, and install the replacement battery.
Before You Begin
The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) is a screenless security system panel with a built-in lithium polymer backup battery. Replace only with an approved model: Icon Energy Systems IAN034NA or Ningbo Veken Battery Co. VT27. Using any other battery may present a risk of fire or explosion.
Safety cautions: do NOT use a screwdriver or sharp tool near the battery. Do NOT pull on the battery cable. Always power down the panel before disconnecting the battery. Dispose of the old battery per your local regulations.
Steps to Replace the Battery
1. Power down the IQ5 NS. Open the IQ Installer app, connect to the panel, navigate to Configuration, and select Power Down. Alternatively, press the power button on the panel twice within 3 seconds. Wait for the Status LED to turn off completely before proceeding.

2. Disconnect the power supply. Unplug the power supply from the wall or panel after the panel has fully powered down.
3. Remove the IQ5 NS from its mount. Release the panel from the backplate to access the interior.
4. Unplug the 6-pin battery connector from the board. Grip the connector housing and pull straight out. Do not pull on the cable.
5. Remove the old battery. Pull up on the edge of the battery with your finger to release it from the plastic hold-down. Do not use a screwdriver or sharp tool.
6. Press the new battery into place and route the cable. Press the replacement battery firmly into the hold-down. Route the cable between the battery and the daughter cards.
7. Plug the 6-pin connector back in, remount the panel, and reconnect power. The IQ5 NS powers on. The Status LED turns solid green once the panel is running normally.

After Replacing the Battery
After the IQ5 NS powers back on, connect the IQ Installer app and navigate to About to check the battery status. A new battery will show as Charging and should reach Full after a few hours on AC power. If it shows Disconnected, check that the 6-pin connector is fully seated. Add a monitoring plan to ensure your panel communicates to a central station during outages, and expand your system with home automation devices for complete smart home control.
