How Do I Turn On Indoor Temperature Reporting on the IQ5 NS?

The IQ5 NS does not have Indoor Temperature Reporting, because its manual lists no such setting and it has no display or home screen. The setting is an option on the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, so there is nothing to turn on. Use a panel with a display. Choose a panel with a display.

Does the IQ5 NS Have Indoor Temperature Reporting

The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) does not have an Indoor Temperature Reporting setting. On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, that setting chooses a PowerG sensor and shows its temperature on the panel's home screen. The IQ5 NS manual lists no such setting, and the IQ5 NS has no display or home screen to show a temperature on.

That means there is nothing to turn on for the system.

What the Setting Does on Other Panels

On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, the setting is disabled by default and is greyed out until Temperature Reporting for PowerG is enabled. Once it is, you select a PowerG sensor from a list, and the temperature it measures appears on the home screen. Outdoor Temperature Reporting works the same way for an outdoor sensor.

Temperature Sensors on the IQ5 NS

The IQ5 NS can still use PowerG temperature sensors. Its sensor group list includes the temperature groups for the PowerG Temp Sensor PGx905, so the sensor can monitor temperature and report as part of your security system. What the system does not offer is a place on the panel to display the reading.

If You Want a Temperature on the Panel

If you want a temperature shown on the panel itself, the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub both include Indoor and Outdoor Temperature Reporting. All panels in this family share the same core features, so the choice comes down to whether you want a display.

How the Panels Differ

The IQ5 NS is managed through the IQ Installer app and has no display. Features that depend on a screen, such as a home screen reading, are not part of this model. The core detection, arming, and reporting work the same way, so for most homes the difference does not matter.

What the Setting Controls on Other Panels

On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, three settings work together. Temperature Reporting for PowerG is disabled by default and turns the feature on. Indoor Temperature Reporting and Outdoor Temperature Reporting each let you pick a PowerG sensor from a list, and both are greyed out until the first setting is enabled. The chosen sensor's temperature is shown on the home screen.

Temperature Groups on the IQ5 NS

The IQ5 NS sensor group list includes the groups used by the PowerG Temp Sensor PGx905. Group 50 reports temperature to the central station, Group 51 does not report, Group 52 is for freeze alerts, and Group 53 is for high temperature alerts. Thresholds can be set from -22 F to 158 F, or -40 C to 85 C. These groups let the IQ5 NS act on temperature even though it cannot display it.

Planning Your System

Decide before you buy whether you want to see a temperature on the panel. If you do, choose a panel with a display. If you only need a sensor to monitor temperature and report conditions such as freezing, a temperature sensor on the IQ5 NS covers that need.

The IQ5 NS does not have Indoor Temperature Reporting, but the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub show a PowerG sensor's temperature on the home screen on the IQ5 NS.
