How Do I Update the Firmware On My 2GIG GC Touch Panel?

The 2GIG GC Touch supports local firmware updates via USB flash drive. Connect a drive containing the new firmware file in .zip format to the panel's rear Type-C port. When the panel detects the update, enter your Master Code or Installer Code to authorize and begin installation.

You can also update the GC Touch firmware over the air through Alarm.com. Your alarm dealer can push the update remotely, and as long as the panel is connected to WIFI, there is no charge. If WIFI is not available, you can update the panel locally using a USB drive at no cost or pay a nominal fee for OTA updates using the panel's cellular connection.

Keeping your security system firmware current ensures optimal performance and access to the latest features. The 2GIG GC Touch (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) makes this process straightforward by supporting local firmware updates through a USB flash drive connected to the panel's rear Type-C port.

Update Requirements

Before starting the firmware update process, verify the following conditions are met:

  1. Disarm the system. The panel must be in a disarmed state.
  2. Confirm AC power connection. The panel must be connected to AC power throughout the update process.
  3. Check battery level. The internal battery must be above 20% capacity.
  4. Prepare the flash drive. The firmware file must be in .zip format on the USB drive.

Performing the Update

Follow these steps to update your 2GIG GC Touch firmware:

  1. Dismount panel. If the panel is mounted, you'll need to dismount it to access the USB-C port for updating. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the two retaining screws on the bottom edge of the panel. Pull the bottom edge of the panel forward and away from the back cover, then pull down from the top edge to free the panel. Using the same Phillips screwdriver, remove the set screw from the back cover to reveal the USB-C port.

  2. Insert the USB flash drive. Plug the drive containing the firmware file (in .zip format) into the Type-C port on the back of the panel. Use a USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter if necessary.

  3. Wait for the update prompt. When the panel detects a newer firmware version, it will display a popup showing the current and new version numbers. A 60-second countdown timer will begin.

  4. Enter your authentication code. Input your Master Code (1111 by default) or Installer Code (1561 by default) using the on-screen keypad, then tap the enter (↵) button.
  5. Allow the update to complete. If the code is correct, the system will automatically proceed with the firmware update. Do not remove the flash drive or disconnect power during this process. If the code is incorrect, an error message will display "Wrong Master Code".

Understanding Update Notifications

If you miss the 60-second timer window the PIN Code keypad will disappear and a firmware update icon will appear in the top status bar. This icon indicates a pending update is available. To restart the update process, simply remove and reinsert the flash drive. If the flash drive is removed entirely, the update icon will disappear until the drive is reconnected.

Updating firmware on the 2GIG GC Touch helps maintain security system reliability and functionality. The process requires AC power, battery above 20%, and a disarmed system state.
