Most alarm systems have a built-in feature called sounder or siren timeout. This means that after a certain period of time, the alarm siren will automatically stop ringing. Most modern security systems have a built in 10 minute siren timeout but some allow you to change the timeout interval within the installer mode programming. Many cities and towns require this feature so that an unattended alarm system will not continuously bother your neighbors.
