How Many Wireless Zones Does the 2GIG GC Touch Support?

The 2GIG GC Touch supports up to 128 wireless zones for security, life safety, and other devices. This allows users to protect doors, windows, and interior spaces throughout a location. The panel uses 345 MHz wireless signals and works with both encrypted eSeries and standard 345 MHz sensors.

Understanding Zone Allocation

Each zone on the 2GIG GC Touch (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) holds one wireless device. The Sensor Settings screen shows all 128 zones in a list. Zones with sensors display the device name and number. Empty zones show "(Empty)" and can be set up using Quick Add or Manual Add.

The panel works with three general device types:

  • General Devices: This option covers all security, life safety, and environmental sensors. Use it for door and window contacts, motion detectors, glass break sensors, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and flood sensors. Most zones will use this device type.
  • Key fobs: Small handheld remotes that let users arm and disarm the system from a distance. Key fobs can also trigger panic alerts. They are great for quick access when entering or leaving the home.
  • Keypads: Extra touchpads that give more control points around the home. Place a keypad near a secondary entrance like a garage or back door so users do not have to walk to the main panel to check status or disarm.

When adding sensors, you'll pick the device type and set options like loop type and response group.

Wireless Sensor Compatibility

The 2GIG GC Touch uses 345 MHz wireless signals. This gives it wide sensor support. The panel works with 2GIG encrypted eSeries sensors for better security. It also works with older sensors that are not encrypted. Each sensor has a unique ID called a TXID that the panel uses to track signals.

Quick Add listens for sensor signals and grabs the TXID when you trip a device. Manual Add lets you type in the TXID and set all zone options yourself. You can pick from many response groups such as Entry/Exit zones with delay timers and Perimeter zones that trigger right away.

Managing Zone Capacity

For most homes and small businesses, 128 zones is more than enough for doors, windows, motion sensors, and smoke detectors. The search tool in Sensor Settings helps find devices fast without scrolling through the full list. Users can name each zone to make the system easier to manage and troubleshoot.

The 128 zones on the 2GIG GC Touch allow for full protection of your premises. This includes entry points, motion coverage, glass break sensors, and monitoring for smoke, heat, and flood.
