What Are the 2GIG GC Touch Sensor Groups and Zone Types?
The 2GIG GC Touch uses sensor groups to define how each zone responds when armed or disarmed. Groups include entry/exit delays for doors, perimeter protection for windows, interior motion detection, 24-hour life safety sensors, and specialized types for unique monitoring needs like Day Zones and silent alarms.
The 2GIG GC Touch (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions) supports up to 128 wireless zones. Each sensor must be assigned to a group during enrollment that determines how it responds when your security system is armed Away, Disarmed, or in Stay mode.
Entry/Exit Delay Groups
Group 01: Exit/Entry 1
Starts Entry Delay Timer 1 when triggered while armed. Provides exit delay when arming.
- Best for: Front doors, main entry doors
- Behavior: Gives you time to exit and to disarm after entering
- Example: Front door sensor on a home
Group 02: Exit/Entry 2
Starts Entry Delay Timer 2 (can be set longer than Timer 1) when triggered.
- Best for: Garage doors, side entries requiring more time
- Behavior: Longer delay for distant entry points
- Example: Garage entry door far from keypad
Perimeter Protection Groups
Group 03: Perimeter
Triggers instant alarm when violated while armed in Stay or Away mode. No delay.
- Best for: Windows, back doors, doors not used for entry
- Behavior: Immediate alarm — no time to disarm
- Example: Bedroom windows, sliding glass doors, door/window sensors
Interior Motion Groups
Group 04: Interior Follower
"Follows" entry delay sensors. Only delayed if an Entry/Exit zone triggers first. Bypassed in Stay mode.
- Best for: Motion detectors in main living areas
- Behavior: Delayed only if you enter through a delay door first
- Example: Living room motion sensor, hallway PIR
Group 10: Interior with Delay
Starts its own Entry Delay Timer 1 when triggered. Does not need another sensor to trigger first. Bypassed in Stay mode.
- Best for: Interior doors used as secondary entry points
- Behavior: Always provides delay when triggered while in Away mode
- Example: Door from attached garage into house
Specialized Zone Types
Group 05: Day Zone
Acts like Perimeter when armed. When disarmed, triggers a trouble alert (not alarm) for supervisory monitoring.
- Best for: Sensitive areas needing daytime monitoring
- Behavior: Notifies you when accessed even while disarmed
- Example: Medicine cabinet, liquor cabinet, gun safe, pool gate
Group 24: Silent Burglary
Triggers alarm signal to monitoring station without activating local sirens or sounders.
- Best for: High-security areas, jewelry stores, cash rooms
- Behavior: Silent response — intruder unaware alarm was triggered
- Example: Safe room door, high-value storage area
Group 23: No Response Type
Special zone not monitored for alarm. Does not affect system status or send signals.
- Best for: Informational sensors, non-security automation triggers
- Behavior: Logs activity but takes no alarm action
- Example: Mailbox sensor, driveway sensor for awareness only
24-Hour Life Safety Groups
Important: Life safety zones are always active 24/7 regardless of arming status and cannot be bypassed.
Group 09: 24-Hour Fire
Immediate fire alarm on first activation. Activates fire sounder and bell output.
- Best for: Smoke detectors, heat detectors, smoke listening device
- Example: Bedroom smoke detector, kitchen heat detector
Group 16: 24-Hour Fire Verification
Requires sensor to trigger twice in 2 minutes OR stay active for 30 seconds before alarm. Reduces false alarms.
- Best for: Smoke detectors in areas prone to false alarms
- Example: Smoke detector near kitchen, bathroom with steam
Group 14: 24-Hour Carbon Monoxide
Triggers CO alarm with pulsing sounder pattern distinct from fire alarms.
- Best for: CO detectors near furnaces, garages, bedrooms
- Example: CO detector in hallway near gas appliances
Group 08: 24-Hour Auxiliary Alarm
Triggers alarm for environmental hazards. Local sounder activates (no bell output). Continues until acknowledged.
- Best for: Flood sensors, freeze sensors, temperature sensors
- Example: Water leak sensor in basement, freeze sensor in cabin
24-Hour Panic Groups
Group 06: 24-Hour Silent Panic
Sends panic signal to monitoring station with no local sound or visual indication.
- Best for: Duress situations, holdups, medical emergencies
- Example: Hidden panic button at retail counter, bedside button
Group 07: 24-Hour Audible Panic
Sends panic signal AND activates local alarm and bell output to scare off intruder.
- Best for: Emergency buttons where you want immediate noise
- Example: Panic button by front door, nightstand emergency button

Understanding sensor groups helps you configure your 2GIG GC Touch for optimal protection. Groups are assigned during sensor enrollment through Installer programming by pressing Settings and entering the Installer Code (default: 1561) and pressing Enter (↵). This FAQ walks you through how to add a 2GIG DW100-345 to the GC Touch. The steps to to enter sensor programming are the same for nearly all sensor types.
