What Is Live View on the IQ Panel 5 and How Does It Work?

Live View on the IQ Panel 5 lets you watch live Alarm.com camera video on the panel. The page appears once cameras are authorized to stream in Alarm.com Video Settings and supports up to 40 cameras. Select a camera from the list to see a thumbnail, then tap play to go full screen.

What Is Live View?

The IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) includes a Live View page that pulls live video feeds from any Alarm.com-connected cameras on your account directly to the 7-inch panel screen. This gives you a central monitoring point inside your home without needing to open a phone app. Live View is part of the IQ Panel 5's broader home automation and video capabilities, and it supports up to 40 cameras simultaneously. The Live View page appears automatically in the panel's page rotation once cameras are authorized, so no manual setup on the panel itself is required.

Live View works exclusively with Alarm.com-connected cameras. This includes indoor cameras, outdoor cameras, and doorbell cameras that are associated with your Alarm.com account. Cameras must be authorized to push video to the panel through the Alarm.com customer website under Video Settings. Once authorized, the panel automatically pulls the camera list and begins displaying live feeds. If a camera is removed from the account or deauthorized, it disappears from the panel's Live View page without any change needed on the panel itself.

How to Use Live View

The Live View page is accessed by swiping left or right from the IQ Panel 5 home screen until the camera page appears. On the left side of the screen, you see a list of all authorized cameras on your Alarm.com account. Selecting a camera name displays a thumbnail preview of that camera's feed in the main view area. To watch the feed in full screen, tap the play button on the thumbnail. The panel expands the feed to fill the entire screen, and you can exit by tapping the red X icon in the corner.

An important requirement for Live View is authorization. Cameras will not stream to the panel by default. A system administrator must log in to the Alarm.com customer website, navigate to Video Settings, and enable the option to authorize cameras to stream to the panel. Once this is done, the Live View page becomes active on the IQ Panel 5 and stays updated as cameras are added or removed from the account.

Two-Way Audio in Live View

If your camera supports two-way audio, the IQ Panel 5 Live View page includes Talk and End buttons directly on the feed. You can press and hold the Talk button to speak through the camera's speaker, and release Talk to hear audio from the camera's microphone. This lets you use the IQ Panel 5 as an intercom for communicating with anyone near a camera, such as at a front door or driveway camera, without picking up a phone.

Live Answer for Doorbell Cameras

The IQ Panel 5 also supports Live Answer for Alarm.com doorbell cameras. When a visitor presses the doorbell, the panel displays an on-screen notification showing the camera feed. You can choose to Answer or Ignore the call. If you answer, the live video feed opens immediately along with Talk, Speaker, End Call, and Snapshot buttons. This lets you see and speak with visitors at your door directly from the IQ Panel 5, making it function as a smart video intercom.

Monitoring Plans and Camera Requirements

Live View requires an active Alarm.com monitoring plan that includes video. Check out this FAQ for details on what's included with an Alarm.com video plan, and what expansion options are available. Any Alarm.com-compatible camera can be used with Live View, including indoor, outdoor, and doorbell models. The cameras connect to your WIFI network. The IQ Panel 5 must be connected to the same WIFI network that the cameras use.

Live View on the IQ Panel 5 turns the panel into a home monitoring hub where you can watch, hear, and communicate through all of your Alarm.com cameras on the IQ Panel 5.
