Will a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Work w/o a Phone Line?
Yes, a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 will work without a phone line. In fact, there is no way for an IQ Panel 2 to use a phone line connection. There is no phone jack on the system for supporting a phone line. Instead, the IQ Panel 2 receives monitoring service from WIFI and cellular connectivity.
In order for an alarm system to use a phone line connection, it must have a phone line connection port and an integrated dialer. The Qolsys IQ Panel has neither of these. For that reason, it cannot be used with a phone line. But the system does have an integrated cellular communicator and a built-in WIFI card. These modules will allow the system to receive active monitoring service. This means that the system will most certainly work without a phone line.
Most IQ Panel 2 Systems use a dual-path communication setup. This involves using both a WIFI communication path and cellular service as a backup. WIFI is recognized as being the fastest possible communication path available for an alarm system. However, it is not a good idea to fully rely on WIFI connectivity. WIFI signals can be rather flaky, and a power outage will usually cause the WIFI connection to go out. For that reason, having cellular backup is very important. Cellular service is extremely reliable, and modern LTE cellular networks are almost as fast as WIFI services. Cellular service is also required to allow the IQ Panel 2 System to work with Alarm.com.
Alarm.com is an interactive service platform that a user can access to arm and disarm their system, check the current status of sensors, control Z-Wave home automation devices and more. Because Alarm.com can be accessed through a website or a mobile app, it allows you to control your system from virtually anywhere. In order to use cellular connectivity, the user will need an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular service.
