How Do I Add a Garage Door Controller to My IQ5 Hub Panel?
To add a garage door controller to the IQ5 Hub, swipe down from the top of the screen and touch Settings. Touch Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code (default 1111), then go to Devices, Z-Wave Devices, and select Add Device. Touch Include and press the Learn button on the controller.
Before You Begin
The IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) supports up to six Z-Wave garage door controllers. Adding a garage door controller to your panel lets you open and close overhead garage doors directly from the touchscreen, and it also enables remote control through the Alarm.com mobile app when paired with a compatible monitoring plan.
Before starting the enrollment process, make sure the garage door controller is installed on your garage door opener according to the manufacturer's instructions. The controller must be powered on and within Z-Wave range of the panel, which is typically up to 100 feet (30 meters) indoors depending on building materials. If the controller was previously paired with another security system or Z-Wave hub, you need to clear it from the old network first using the Clear Device function before adding it to the IQ5 Hub.
Adding the Garage Door Controller
1. Swipe down from the top of the home screen to open the Settings Tray. The Settings Tray slides down and reveals a row of quick-access icons. You see options for WIFI, Bluetooth, volume, brightness, and other system settings. Touch the Settings icon to proceed to the main Settings page.

3. Enter the Installer Code (default 1111). The panel auto-advances after the fourth digit is entered. This opens the Installation menu, which contains all system configuration options including Devices, Security and Arming, and System Tests. The Installer Code is required because Z-Wave device management is a protected function.

4. Touch Devices, then touch Z-Wave Devices. The Devices menu shows categories for Security Sensors, WIFI Devices, Z-Wave Devices, Automation Devices, and Bluetooth Devices. Selecting Z-Wave Devices opens the Z-Wave management page where you can add, edit, clear, and remove Z-Wave devices.

5. Touch Add Device, then touch Include. The panel enters inclusion mode and begins listening for a Z-Wave signal. A message appears on screen indicating that the panel is waiting for the device to respond. At this point, go to your garage door controller and press the Pair or Learn button. Refer to the controller's documentation for the exact button location, as this varies by manufacturer.

6. Press the Pair or Learn button on the garage door controller. Once the panel detects the controller's signal, it displays the device information on screen. You see fields for the device ID, device type, and device name. The panel automatically identifies the device as a garage door controller based on the Z-Wave device class.
7. Edit the device name and confirm the settings. Touch the device name field to change it to something descriptive like Garage Door or Main Garage. This name appears on the Garage Control page and in the Alarm.com app. After confirming the name and settings, touch Add to complete the enrollment. The garage door controller now appears in the Z-Wave device list.

After Enrollment
Once the garage door controller is enrolled, a Garage Control page appears in the panel's home automation interface. Swipe left from the home screen to navigate through the Lights, Locks, and Thermostat pages until you reach the Garage Control page. You can open and close the garage door by touching the door icon on this page. The status indicator shows whether the door is currently open or closed.
The GoControl GD00Z-8-GC is a popular Z-Wave garage door controller that is compatible with the IQ Panel 5 and includes a tilt sensor. Or if you already have a compatible Z-wave garage door controller you can pair a tilt sensor like the IQ Tilt-S alongside the controller to get accurate open and closed status reporting in Alarm.com, even when the door is operated manually with a wall button or remote.
Tips
If the garage door controller does not appear during inclusion, make sure the device is within Z-Wave range of the panel and that it has not already been paired to another network. Use the Clear Device function on the Z-Wave Devices page to exclude the controller from its previous network before trying again. You can also try moving the panel closer to the garage temporarily during enrollment if range is an issue. After successful pairing, the controller communicates through the Z-Wave mesh network, so other Z-Wave devices between the panel and the garage help extend the signal.
