How Do I Add an IQ Smoke and Heat Detector to the IQ5 Hub?

To add an IQ Smoke and Heat detector to the IQ5 Hub, swipe down, touch Settings, Advanced Settings, enter the Installer Code (1111 by default), go to Installation, Devices, Security Sensors, touch Auto Learn, activate the QS5130-840, set Sensor Type to Smoke Detector, and touch Add New.

About the IQ Smoke and Heat Detector

The IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) is compatible with the Qolsys IQ Smoke QS5130-840, a Qolsys S-Line 319.5 MHz wireless smoke and heat detector. S-Line is built natively into the IQ5 Hub — no daughter card required. The QS5130-840 uses encrypted two-way S-Line communication for supervised wireless protection.

Once enrolled, the detector is always active and monitors 24 hours a day regardless of arming state. Smoke detectors use Sensor Group 26 and cannot be bypassed. With a monitoring plan, the central station receives the fire signal and can dispatch emergency services immediately. Install on every level of the home and near sleeping areas per local code requirements.

Steps to Add the IQ Smoke and Heat Detector

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and touch Settings. The Settings page opens.

2. Touch Advanced Settings and enter the Installer Code (1111 by default). The Advanced Settings menu opens.

3. Touch Installation, then Devices, then Security Sensors. The Security Sensors menu opens.

4. Touch Auto Learn Sensor. The panel enters listening mode for an S-Line signal.

5. Pull the battery tab on the QS5130-840 to power it on. The panel chimes and displays the DL ID. The Source field shows S-Line confirming encrypted enrollment.

6. Touch OK, set Sensor Type to Smoke Detector, choose a Sensor Name, and touch Add New. Sensor Group 26 is assigned automatically. Name the detector by location such as Kitchen Smoke or Bedroom Smoke, then touch Add New.

After Adding the Detector

Test after enrollment by pressing the test button until the panel sounds a fire alarm. The detector is supervised and always active — it cannot be bypassed. For additional fire coverage, add the IQ Heat 135/200 for fixed-temperature heat detection, or the IQ Carbon for carbon monoxide protection. A monitoring plan ensures fire signals reach the central station for professional dispatch.
