How Do I Check for Software Updates on the IQ5 Hub Panel?

To check for software updates on the IQ5 Hub, swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings, then Advanced Settings. Enter the Installer Code (1111 by default), select Upgrade Software, then Upgrade Using Network. The panel checks for available firmware updates over your WIFI.

Before You Begin

Keeping your IQ5 Hub (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) up to date is essential for receiving the latest features, security patches, and bug fixes. Software updates are delivered over your WIFI network through the Alarm.com platform. The panel needs an active WIFI connection with internet access to download updates. Before starting, make sure your panel is connected to WIFI and plugged into AC power. Do not power down or unplug the panel during an update.

The IQ5 Hub also supports automatic background updates. By default, the panel checks for new software once a week and downloads updates in the background so they are ready to install. You can change the automatic check interval to every night, once a week, or once a month. Running a manual check is useful if you want to verify you have the latest version right now or if you were told a specific update is available for your security system.

Checking for Updates Manually

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen. The settings tray slides down, showing quick access controls for brightness, volume, and system status.

2. Select Settings, then select Advanced Settings. A keypad appears asking for a code. Enter the Installer Code (1111 by default) or Dealer Code (2222 by default). The code auto-advances after the last digit is entered and the Installer menu opens.

3. Select Upgrade Software. The Upgrade Software screen opens showing options including Upgrade Using Network, Patch Tag, Automatic Background Check and Download, and Automatic Check Interval. This is where all software update settings are managed.

4. Select Upgrade Using Network. The panel connects to the update server over WIFI and checks for the latest software version. If your panel is already up to date, a message confirms you have the most recent software. If an update is available, the panel automatically begins downloading it. Once the download is complete, a popup appears asking you to restart the panel. Select OK, and the panel installs the update and automatically restarts.

Tips

You can also enable automatic background updates to keep your panel current without manually checking. From the Upgrade Software screen, make sure the Automatic Background Check and Download option is enabled. The default check interval is once a week. The panel downloads updates in the background and prompts you to install them the next time the panel restarts. This is the recommended approach for most users since it ensures your home automation devices, PowerG sensors, and panel features all stay compatible with the latest firmware. If you are unsure whether your panel needs an update, contact the Alarm Grid support team and we can verify your current software version.
